Have you ever seen or heard a band that you thought were destined for big things, but they didn't quite hit the big time?

One that stands out for me was a band from Glasgow called Speedway that I saw in the early 2000s but a few years later they split without hitting the heights.

A box at end of your bed

Remember seeing a band from the North east called "The Force" many times in my 20s, always thought they would make it big don't know if they did.

Think the guys must have been on Fab too, with song titles such as:

'Lady Like You'

'Dreaming of another girl'

'I love you cos you're there'

and from a ladies POV, 'I just wanna be left alone'

Saw a group of really young guys called the Janice Graham band in Manchester years ago and I really thought they'd go somewhere but never did.

Alternatively, I saw Susan Boyle's first audition and knew she'd go far

My nan’s spare room.

Did anybody ever see the Utter Gutter Band in the late 80s, I can see why they never made it mind you.

They weren’t royal variety performance material.

Stockport

WU LYF brought out an excellent album about 10 years ago and then promptly broke up.

Jim Noir, I thought he'd make it but unfortunately not. Still releasing things and last year's album was his best yet.

There and to the left a bit

There's an excellent ska band I follow called The Simmertones that really deserve to be bigger - they get occasional national radio airplay and are well thought of in ska circles but have never quite broken through, which is a shame as their music has a wide appeal

Check out their cover of Doris Day's "Perhaps Perhaps Perhaps" with Doris' vocal woven into it - really is quite clever:

The career of any artist that I like dies a death as soon as I buy their album. It's a sure-fire way to ruin it for somebody. I shouldbbe used as a litmus test in the music industry. I'm kind of the opposite if Simon Cowell.

If only I had a time machine....so many terrible careers that could have been avoided

I saw Nothing But Theives at a small gig, thought they would have gone a lot further.

Ayrshire’s finest, The Trashcan Sinatra’s always deserved to be better recognised.

Well worth a listen

The Larry Mullen Band, from Dublin showed promise but didn't quite make it. Last I heard they changed their name to U2. Whatever became of them?

I saw Hard-fi about 15 years ago and thought they'd make it. Apparently they are on a hiatus and have been for a few years!

Halifax

Bit of a weird one as I tend to like bands who never make it big(Black Keys and Muse beingg the exceptions) and seem destined to continually play small tto medium sized venues. - garagey rock type stuff.

Selfishly thinking I kind of prefer it that way as when they 'make it' I get annoyed with people who don't jump up and down anymore at their gigs. Saying that, I'm always happy for the band members making a bit of mulah finally if they get to that size.

But too many to mention!

the land of saints & sinners

I once saw Keanu Reeves play in his band Dogstar

At that one gig I could tell they were not destined for great things.....

The Spitfires were good....I guess I never really thought they'd make it as that guitar pop tuney thing isn't as popular anymore. Still good though
