Example being.. speaking to a lovely person on here earlier, talking about our love of music.

And a lot of my music & emotions are connected through my Dad, who sadly took his own life.

And I used to play guitar with my Dad, an for many years I hid away from doing so cause it felt unnatural without him.

And speaking to a friend this evening, although it was a small comment it built the courage for me to go play that guitar again..

.

Sometimes words resonate with something deep inside of us, normally because of our life experiences. So yes Op, there are certain areas/subjects where words, even though they are just that, will get to me on a level that I'm far more likely to take them on board/believe them. I wish people truly knew and understood the impact their words have on them, I think we'd be inclined to be kinder if we did.

I think it's lovely you've been inspired to play the guitar again, it's a lovely way to honour his memory.

I definitely used to. Praise would go to my head and I'd start believing my own hype. But negative words would send me spirlalling out of control. Essentially I'd have extreme highs and lows, particularly if it was a stranger making comments - I was a sociably awkward teenager growing up on RAF bases which really didn't help.

Nowadays I'm a much more steely character, and words have zero affect on me....probably why I'm able to stay on Fab lol

Yes...and no. I can be a little narcissistic at times.

I'll take praise and take it in my stride, I'll take criticism and turn it into motivation. If it's just straight up negativity I ignore it.

Suppose being able to filter out what is negative to me, my development and my psyche and only take on the positives isn't a bad thing though.

It is much easier to do after potentially traumatic experiences though, you really learn what is important to you and what you can live without.

Bad words definitely. Not all the time, just some people know how to cut deeper than others
