I've been made redundant in one job, and now looking for another. I have been for a few months now and just seems impossible.
I have a masters in electronic engineering, and am best at computer stuff and programming, but I just cant get a job. Have sent my cv too many many places and keep been told I have a very good cv but rarely even get an inter_iew, getting very disheartened now ! |

It's realy tough out there dude. I am not as well educated as you are, but have been very well regarded by my employers and have been very successfull in my field........
You can't let rejection get you down because it realy does come across in your comunications.
Do you know who the best agencies in your field are? Get your CV to them (I'm sure that there will likely be specialist recruiters) and call them, all the time. Make yourself a pest and they will get you a job just to get you off their back.

ive been looking for a new job for a while now
I suppose im lucky that i already have a job i just fancy a change
But your right its so very hard now days, theres so much competition and even basic jobs that people didnt want years ago are asking for qualification and experience but still want to pay NMW |

keep yer head up, something will come along eventually. I was made redundant on 31st December last year, got so many rejections it made me so dispondent but then got an inter_iew for a job I didn't really want, didn't get that but the company called me back yesterday and they have created a job for me more akin to my skills, I start a week on Monday! |

Congratulations, they don't have any vacancies for an acomplished Credit controller with post litigation experience do they?

I've just taken voluntary redundancy as it coincided with my desire to move up North. I had been looking for work up here for nearly a year with no luck. I'm now unemployed myself - I have the chance to totally change my career should I wish to. I'm even thinking of setting up my own business doing wedding stationery and other party invites etc. as well as general cards. However, I appreciate the need for steady employment as I have regular outgoings - I will have to make the trek down to the job centre and sign on. Part of the redundancy package included a workshop that was based on finding jobs and the type of cv that suits each field of work . Very informative. Good luck to those of us who are job hunting  |

When I graduated I applied for 86 jobs. All wanting experience rather than a 1st class honours degree. I ended up setting up my own business and have just taken on staff. It's a very difficult time at the moment. My heart genuinely goes out to people job hunting. For 3 jobs I had over 40 applicants. |

Look at how you complete applications.
Go through the job spec etc and answer each point. You'll start getting inter_iews x and each inter_iew will give to more experience x |

Hi Dan, as some have said already, I'm not as well qualified as you but thought I'd landed on my feet 12 yrs ago when I got an Administrative position within the NHS. I loved my job, had loads of opportunities to move up the promotional ladder but was perfectly happy where I was thank you very much. That is until Mr David Cameron declared almost 2 yrs ago that all Strategic Health Authorities were to be wiped out by March 2013 (now shifted to 2014) and my whole team of 21 staff were almost immediately made redundant. Can you believe it cost almost £2.5million to get rid of us?
I'm still looking for work but saying that the only jobs out there are minimum wage and as much as I hate to say this, I get more in benefits than those jobs would pay.
Right now I'm just hopeful that the country's economy is going to pick up and there will be more jobs available and paying proper salaries, so that the likes of you and me can get back to the place in society we trained for. |

First off, well done you in your academic achievements, very impressive.
Secondly, stop and think. What do you want to do? When you were studying you must have had a specific job/company in mind. Write a covering letter (please no text speak, abbreviations etc) to the HR directors, find out their names and address it to them marked private and confidential, enclosing your cv.
You're young, the world really is your oyster. Are you prepared to relocate at home or abroad?
My daughter's ex has three first class degrees in law, computer sciences and civil engineering...he works security in Primark: disheartening!

i got made redundant in the november just as the recession hit.
couldnt afford to live, let alone do anything else (living off a 3rd of the money we had at the time, yet still the same bills)
i cut back to the barebones with outgoings, but it still wasnt enough to get us through.
got depressed
lost my marriage
then, one day i just said fuck this, and sold everything i could and retrained.
thankfully, since i made that decision, i have not been out of work for any period since this crap started, and just lately am actively turning away work because, legally, there arent enough hours in the day/week.
im not goading you or telling you you are wrong about the jobs market, because i agree, there are very few permanent jobs on the market, but the is work out there.
jobs still need to be done, companies just arent hiring to fill those positions, rather deciding to use employment agencies.
and yes, these leeches offer lower wages than you would get normally, and there is no job security (like there ever has been) but i couldnt go back to that 6 months when i had no work, i know exactly where you are coming from.
i honestly believe that no matter how much you are currently doing, there is still more you can do to improve your own situation.
no one else gives a fuck enough to get you that job.
