Robbing bastards!!

£3.85 for a ponced up bacon butty, the same price for a coffee if you go in the costa coffee part.

Where have the little cafe's gone that served decent food at good prices?

Cooking bacon in a frying pan that had seen action in WW1 was considered a health risk so they had to go.

you'd pay as much for the same at any other place....why should hospitals be any cheaper?

The retail outlets within a hospital have to pay quite a large rental for their premises, the proceeds of which go back in to the hospital. The hospital can then offer more specialised treatments and departments which aren't covered by their government budget. The same is true for the car parking.

2 coffees. £6.00. Parking for 8 hours. £14.50. Magazine to read whilst waiting in A&E for 7 hours. £3.50.

The look on the doctors face as he removes the vacuum cleaner from your arse?

Priceless!

Work close to a hospital and know of a couple if others in the area. They all have cafes near the entrances as staff use them loads rather than use the more expensive outlets inside.

I had to take Mr to A&E a few months ago and we were there a long time, I was about £12 in parking fees which I thought was terrible. I really, really couldn't afford it and thought I was doing a good thing by taking him up rather than phoning for an ambulance etc. I know what I'll be doing should either of us ever need emergency medical help again!

the nhs is having real money problems, so why complain about paying for food or parking, dont forget the treatment, no matter how much it costs if free, well ignoring the tax we pay.

i would rather pay for parking and food, and know that when i need vital care they are there to help

Presumably the expensive 'ponced up' bacon butty helps to fund the bariatric clinic...

Ponced up = in a ciabatta type roll.

I was asking where the hospital cafes had gone? They used to serve really good food and very decent prices.

In no way was I knocking the NHS in any way, they provide a brilliant service.

My gripe was with the price of food in the coffee/cafe/restaurants that are popping up in the main hospitals.

You're being ripped off!!!! In Barnsley you can get something like a Beef Wellington or a Lobster Thermador for that kind of price, well you could if anybody knew what they were but you can have the local alternatives like pie chips and peas or fish and chips, pigs trotters etc and still have change for a pint and a 5 pack o' fags

That included a soup started, main course and a steamed xmas pudding.

Does the parking/cafes belong to the hospital or are they put out to contracts/tenders, etc?

"Does the parking/cafes belong to the hospital or are they put out to contracts/tenders, etc?"

Usually out to tender. Some maintain a 'friends' tea/cake point run by WRVS. Some of the newer ones built their finance plans around renting space to shops (Southampton a good example of this, I think) and private contractors for the parking.

Every price is governed by two things, location and what they can get.

Despite the high profit margins on food there is only so many you can sell in a given time, especially if made to order.

I go regularly to an Italian coffee place in Gloucester docks, £2.15 a cup, some might say that's too high. But its great coffee and great location.

Had to go to my local hospital in the early hours of the morning (2.30am) when my Mum had suffered a heart attack and wasn`t expected to live . Finally exited the hospital around 3.00pm and didn`t have the cash for the machine so took the ticket straight to the manned office. The guy behind the desk took one look at the time I had gone into the car park and presumably sussed that I had an emergency to attend and told me "give us a couple of quid mate!" It should have been over £30!

I had a similar experience two weeks ago. My friend died and we lost the ticket somewhere amongst all the things that happen after a death. The parking attendant said sorry for your loss and opened the barrier. It was sadly touching.
