Quite open to any type but some variety would be good... Perhaps along the lines of TGI's type place

It's a bit of a dive I guess by some standards, but I love it in Bodeans BBQ smoke house on Poland Street (just off Oxford Street).

If you're out as a couple or with mates then it's great.

As an informal place it's good too, but not somewhere I would take business clients etc

London

You can't get more central than the Texas embassy in cockspur street off trafalgar square for tgi style tex mex food

Cheap Chinese go to Wong kei in wardour street south of Shaftesbury avenue. Be prepared though, it's probably the rudest in the world but an experience (cash only no cheques)

Another tgi style place is sticky fingers which is bill wymans place phillimore gardens off high street Kensington

All depends what you want, where you want to be

everyone visiting London should go to wong kei. It's definitely an experience but they play up to it a bit.

Also the Mongolian barbecue in Covent Garden and for burgers Hamburger Union in Charing Cross Road.

Don't eat street food in W1

My recommendation will be biased as I really fancy it atm, myself! - But Bento Ramen (Japanese resturaunt) in Camden is AMAZING! Reasonably priced and delicious non-greasey food.

Marmite squid is a must!

London is a big city, and most will consider anywhere inside the Circle Line being "Central" London.

Therefore, a more precise location where the OP may be heading would help.

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

Name a country, pick a cuisine and you will find it.

Belgos in Convent Garden, I love that place.

Lots of different flavoured beers, and the best mussels I have ever tasted. The setting is also pretty awesome!!!

(agree about Wong Ki, fantastic staff to yell at you "up-stair, up-stair!", and throw -virtually- the dishes at you, move you along in a hurry etc etc, but the food is great, cheap, and plentiful|)

Was in Wong kei once when somebody tried to pay by cheque

"what you think this is? Bank of fucking china!" shouted very loudly soon got the customers pulling up the cash

I always liked Wagamama there are a few now but the one in Bloomsbury always seemed the most congenial
