Boom Boom Boom now let me hear ya say wayoh
Jump to: Newest in thread
So Estragon thread the other day has got on a nostalgic trip of the 90's.
The decade where you had everything from electronic music, Brit pop to cheesy pop. TV where you had to actually wait a week for the next episode and no catch up, if you missed it you missed it. Everything from Bottom, this life, X files and Father Ted. And don't forget the fashion, baggy t shirts and cycle shorts, check shirts and platform trainer's all the whilst smelling of dewberry from the body shop.
So come on peeps what are your fondest memories of the 90's? And did anyone ever find out what she looked like with a chimney on her? |

Those were the days..
Discovering pop music; Spice Girls, Steps, S Club, Britney, Hanson, Bwitched and endless more.
Sitting in front of the tv watching Zzzzap, SMTV, Sabrina, Kenal & Kel, Sister Sister, Demon Head Master, Queens Nose, Saved by the Bell.. too many to name!
At the movies discovering Disney. When Robin Williams was your favourite and Drop Dead Fred was your go to film. The hidden gems like Matilda, Parent Trap, Casper and Honey I Shrunk The Kids which you still watch now!
Playing games on the PlayStation One like Crash, Spyro or on the Gameboy playing Super Mario and Donkey Kong.
Getting your first pet with Tamagotchi or making braids with multicoloured bands. Wearing your hair in butterfly clips and rocking jelly sandals.
When reading consisted of Roald Dahl, Mr Men and Jacqueline Wilson. Or waiting for the library to come to your school once a week to find classics like The Tiger who came to tea!
I could go on, 90s were the best days.. take me back!! |

"I'm so glad I was too young to attack my eyebrows
Don't you fancy sperm looking eyebrows? "
Nooo
If I ever want to do that, drag queens have a technique to do that temporarily. I'll cover my brows up, draw a thin line, and then have my brows later |

I was a teenager at the start of the 90's so happy days indeed.....
Kickers shoes
Reebok Pump, Nike Air Max 90, Reebok Classic trainers.
Michael Jordan, Nigel Benn, Nick Faldo
European away trips watching Utd.
Footy in general where you could still boot the shit out of players and they didn't roll around like an Olympic Gymnast.
Original Umbro Speciali footy boots (not like the shit they churn out now!)
90's dance
Getting trollied at house parties while still in school.
Drinking Strongbow Super, Thunderbirds, MD2020 etc in the local park on Fri/Sat nights.
21's & Royales Nightclubs in Manchester. Brutus Gold on a Wednesday night.
Fake Lacoste shirts brought back from Thailand/Turkey.
Weekend Streetfighter comps with schoolmates on the SNES
Wembley Pairs.
Those knitted waistcoats we all wore in about 92/93.
Borrowing you dad's paisley ties for family do's.
WWF - Hulk Hogan, Ultimate Warrior, Legion of Doom (when wrestlers were cool)
The Word, Eurotrash & Man O'Man on a Friday night.
FHM/Maxim
26/5/99 |

There was, I went to the cinema to see it with my boyfriend. He had curtain hair and baggy jeans, I had a crinkly wet look perm and trousers with braces. Those were the days |

Yep, with her and Van Damme. It was a bit of a stinker. The animated movie was so much better |

"Someone must of had a perm?
C’mon... fess up"
I had one in the 80's. Waist length hair and permed. Was a nightmare to care for and used to take a good few hours at the hairdressers |

There was lots of people taking advanced social viewpoints and having empathy with those outside their immediate circle of acquaintances during the 90's (ie. the stuff that people like my brother called PC bullshit). Thinking of more than just oneself had been around for years, i remember going on a rock against racism demo in the late 70's. The term political correctness possibly came later, coined by the out dated attempting to use ridicule to defend their indefensible attitudes. |

I first met an indigenous Australian, to my knowledge, in the early oughts.
But I started campaigning for their rights and to recognise their suffering in 1996. I was on a children's, state level advocacy group in 1997. In 2008 when we achieved our fairly modest aims I cried ugly tears. It was huge.
We've come a long way. Mostly. Sometimes. Sometimes we go backwards. |

PC bullshit, or PC brigade are the kind of terms that really make me shudder from the intellectual deficiency they align with.
As for the 90s though... happy hard-core rave, trip to eclipse baggy jeans, britpop, trainspotting, soap bar, curtains, tanning bottles of cider in the park on a Saturday night! |

I turned 13 in 1999, so I wasn't clubbing. I mostly had homemade clothes.
... Yes I think that was better |
