So I have watched this masterpiece four times in the last week and whilst it is the best film I have seen all year I am still split down the middle as to who Simon is. I see two possibiities:
- he is a demon/entity/poltergeist who gets inside "the weak and the wounded" ie Mary/Gordon and made them do the horrific things they did. Mary had serious issues, so did Gordon with the new baby etc, easy prey for Simon.
- Gordon had previously been a patient in Danvers and it was just coincidence he heard of the job, he thought he was over it but within five mins of setting foot in the place everything came flooding back to him and he snapped, so Simon could be a particularily nasty previous patient who totally destroyed his sanity and Mary's.
Definately a sign of an epic movie when it gets inside your head like this. |
