The argument is that just because they're set at xmas, doesn't mean they're xmas films.

Lethal weapon is set around Christmas and is a better film in my opinion. But that aside, I do watch both over Christmas so for me they’re category b Christmas Films.

Cat A

Scrooge (Alistair Sim version)

A Miracle on 34th Street

It’s a Wonderful life

Home Alone

Holiday Inn

Love Actually

To be controversial slightly Planes, Trains and Automobiles

Etc...

Cat B

Lethal Weapon

Gremlins

Die Hard

So any other film around Christmas but not actually regarded as classic is a cat B

It's set at Christmas, therefore a Christmas film.

Not all Christmas films have to be about fluffy shit...

My Own Little World

I've had this argument with my son many many times. So in the end we came to an agreement.

It is not a traditional Christmas film, tinsel, Santa, eggnog. More bullets, blood and money.... but it is set at Christmas so it does count as a Xmas movie.

TBH I'd put It's a wonderful Life in category B really. It's pretty fucking harsh at times

Absolutely. It's not only set during the Christmas period, Christmas is a recurring theme in the film.

Agree it’s actually quite harsh all the way through the film and it’s start and end is the only real Christmas theme part. But it’s seen by the majority as a Christmas staple now, just like The Wizard of Oz was always on at Christmas, when I was a child. But would that be seen as a Christmas Film ?

If Home Alone is considered a Christmas film then so should Die Hard

Home Alone is a story about child abandonment and attempted robbery... which happens to be set at Christmas time... So should be in exactly the same category as Die Hard

I only saw that last year. Always heard it was this amazing childhood classic. Turns out it's just rubbish.
