When I was younger, our main watering hole was a pub that only played music from the 50's & 60's
The vibe was fantastic

"Been bopping to Bill Hailey this morning. Got to love a bit of 50s rock and roll .
Any other fans out there? "
Being from Merseyside you should be more than happy listening to the Beatles. Lennon’s voice on Twist and Shout is fantastic.
I like some 50’s early 60’s but not Bill Haley. Thankfully Elvis appeared and blew them away.
I’m too young (just) but can you image the impact Rock & Roll had on kids at that time? |

I grew up on many types of music, I'm a musician & enjoy a variety of styles, depends what mood I'm in but have to appreciate many of the older Rock n' Rollers but if you want to put a modern twist on it check out Brian Setzer & his Orchestra. Especially with Xmas on the way they have some great classics well worth a listen.
For something totally different jump on YouTube & check out Broken Peach, Puddles (his version of Royals) or any of the Postmodern Jukebox stuff according to your taste, if you appreciate musicians & ability I think many will be mildly surprised.

"If I remember correctly my favourite LP to borrow from my parents was Jive Bunny need to stick that on later "
Omg I had this on cassette and I used to listen to it with my great grandfather. And he'd then tell me stories of his youth |

It’s a great album from my memory, I guess that’s where my love of old time rock n roll and swing came from
Anyone a fan of Big Bad Voodoo Daddy? I came across them a few years back and love it |

"Buddy holly and chuck berry are my rock and roll favourites
Cracking genre! "
Those guys were true musical trailblazers.
Chuck Berry was so far ahead of his time with his lyrics (and his guitar playing and sound) that I still find it hard to fathom today when I hear his songs that he was writing this stuff back in that era. I'm not sure anyone has ever bettered him for getting such complexity and story into a three minute pop song. When just about everyone else was doing how-much-is-that-doggy-in-the-window, moon-June-spoon type lyrics he's singing, 'I been to Yokohama, been a fightin' in the war. Army bunk, army chow, army clothes, army car.' or 'Well if you feel and like it. Go get your lover then reel and rock it. Roll it over then move on up, yes try for further then reel and rock with one another'. It's genius. No Particular Place to Go is a great example of his skills. The subject matter, the words, the rhymes. And I can only assume he time travelled into the future to grab the guitar solo that plays out the song. He was a complex and controversial cat but my god his music was, and still is, pure class.
Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly, Little Richard, Bo Diddley, Gene Vincent, Eddie Cochran, Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis, Sun Records, Chess Records. There was great music before rock and roll but those guys (and some others) drew up the blueprint for all the great music that followed. |

Reminds me of the novel "Jack Returns Home" which was filmed as "Get Carter" there is a statement about pubs in the 1970's that runs along the lines: there was drinking until 9am, dancing until 11pm and fighting and fucking afterwards. |

That sounds excellent "
We had a lads holiday to Kavos in 1995
Before we went, we made 3 mix tapes of 50's & 60's and got the guy who did the pool bar in the hotel to play them
The place was rocking & we made loads of friends as a result
The bar man said he'd never sold as many drinks
I think it's 'happy' music, it makes you feel fun - particularly when mixed with sunshine and cheap Greek spirits |

Indeed. The Beatles you say? Are they a new rock combo? |

"Love a bit of 50's Rock n Roll now and again. Have a Rockabilly album I play in the car on occasions.
Alice x"
Wonder if any clubs in the NW still have Rockabilly nights (pre/post Covid of course?)
