I've claimed and getting a phone call tomorrow but im scared and stresed out and so worried I can't think straight or eat anything , id bottle it and cancel but no money coming in.
Is being on uc difficult? Im worried about slipping up and getting fined/sanctioned |

You won't slip up.
I'm not on UC I'm on sick pay at the moment but I know how it all works.
It's just a standard form they go through over the phone.
Personal details, job history, income details, all that stuff.
It's quite a simple process when done and you can request an immediate payment (equivalent to a months benefit and paid back over a year or so in installments)
The only thing that could sanction your payments is if you don't declare an income (they can check, and ask for bank statements)
Keep any appointments and phone calls they arrange and you'll be fine.
Sorry you're in the position, it sucks, but UC is not that stressful itself, it's the finding a job part that is.
If you ever need help or advice drop me a private message.
But try not to worry about the initial call itself, it should be fine.

Really dont worry about it. Afaik they are not sanctioning anyone atm. i have not even spoken to my advisor to 'sign on' for like 4 monthes atleast.
I actually had the phonecall that my Nan had died while sitting in the Jobcente waiting room for my first appointment to start claiming and they where cool about rushing me through it |

Something else to help, get your bank statements ready, employment details, all that stuff for when they ask for it.
Then your not rummaging through drawers etc on the phone. This will help the call go smoother so you don't stress. |

Found myself in the same position recently, as in having to claim. So long as you are honest and just give the facts you're asked for it's fine.
Being on UC is hard financially, obviously but it's better than nothing at all.
I'm sure you'll be fine |

Be prepared op and if you are in need of UC and meet the criteria then worry not.
It’s there for everyone in need and I’m sure that they will not try to trio you up.
Eat and do something to de stress and here’s hoping all goes well for you.

I’m on uc for the first time in my life. I found the people I’ve spoken to very nice.
Just be honest about things with them.
They wanted to know exact sums in all my accounts and any other income (none).

How the fuck can you slip up?!
It's not a job interview.
As long as you are being honest you have absolutely nothing to worry about
The times are hard and the benefit system is in not there to give people a hard time unnecessarily. |

I recently had to submit a claim for someone I know as they wouldn't have been able to deal with it.
I was amazed at how easy and pain-free it was and money was in his account within a couple of days. Other than the initial ID we weren't asked for evidence of anything...it was pretty much done on trust...that was the guy from UCs words not mine.
Very easy and straight forward. What a country I thought. You'll be fine mate |

"Write yourself a list of why and what you need ..and the position you find yourself in ..at least you'll have some ammunition for the call "
Having worked in a few different telephone call centres myself, I can say that having "a script" is a good thing (the person who calls you will have a sheet of questions to ask you as they fill out your application. Have your bills, recent wage slips, bank statements etc. close to hand.
Remember you won't be penalised for an unsuccessful application, you will be for a false one. -Give only your honest answer to every question. |

Some good advice in the thread already about being prepared and having things to hand. Though from what I know they don't pay you for 5 weeks to start with. It's designed to mimic wages and be a month in arrears on housing costs from what has been explained to me. Like the others have said, stick to honest facts and you can't go wrong. You'll have email and text notifications when they require something from you so as long as you check those and do them you can't really go wrong. |

I think when people are saying in this thread that they have been payed in a few days i think they mean the loan you can get |

I deal with UC for my case load at work. If you need any help, shout. Nothing to be ashamed of - it's there for everyone, especially in these weird times! Nobody knows anyone else's personal circumstances and let's face it, it's nothing to be ashamed about!
Need help with filling in forms etc, inbox restrictions are dropped to help out when and where I can xx |
