Can't beat (pun intended) the feel of a hand, especially OTK and if there's been an element of ritual beforehand to build the anticipation, also allows for a mix of spanks and gentle caresses as you feel your skin being warmed.
I have enjoyed the crop in the past, and like the way one can be used to tease and trail across the skin as well as cause a sting.

I have a number of standard stuff like crop flogger etc but have improvised with some electrical flex and also a fibreglass rod (usually used for pulling cables ). Both can hurt like an absolute bitch |

For me spanking is by hand only. Canes are for caning, whips are for whipping, paddles (or paddle shaped things) are for paddling but spanking is always done by hand  |
