Having just watched a BBC sesh video on their website about the positives of being a single person and living on your own, what are your positives towards being single and / or living alone?

For me, I love the freedom of doing what the hell I want to do WHEN I WANT to do it and being naked when I want..

Not listening to anyone snoring in my ear. Or finding a toilet seat up.

Finding the thing the way I left them.

Watching TV channels of my choice whenever I want it.

I love it

I live with my 3 year old so not technically alone, however,

I do enjoy the fact I can buy as many plants, candles and cushions as I please and there isn't anyone to tell me I dont need anymore plants, candles or cushions!

Would be nice if there was someone to do a load of washing or make tea once in a while tho!

Tbe biggest advantage is youre not controlled by another person who you have to ask permission from to be able to do something or get sonething...a huge huge plus.and the freedom of it is just breathtakingly beautiful.

I'm just getting used to it. My son left home and then lockdown started - it hasn't lived up to my hopes so far

Can you have too many of those?? You're definitely not alone with a 3 year old from the moment they're awake to nap time and then bedtime but what an adorable age!

Patience, anticipation and hope. Don't look at it as a disappointment. This is the practice run before the launch.

I've been single for 28 years but only lived on my own since Sept 5th and whilst covid is a drag loving the fact there's noone else's mess! It's awesome ... plus noone to explain what I'm doing or not doing to and oh, the freezer is full of things I like!

Does having a farmyard full of animals count as not living alone?!!

I think it's different for men and women. We never noticed the seat was always up in the loo anyway and freezer? What's that? Just go and get food as and when it's needed.

"Does having a farmyard full of animals count as not living alone?!!"

I'm not sure. It sounds like more civilised company than some couples have with a human other half.

South Wales

For me being single right now has been the best thing. I would be an emotional nightmare (to myself more than them) if I was in a relationship and I couldn’t see them due to restrictions/lockdowns etc.

I like being single because it allows me to be selfish. Particularly at this moment in time. I don’t have to try and split myself with mothering duties, girlfriend stuff, daughter/carer duties as well as working and doing an under graduate course.

But then I don’t want to be single forever. I enjoy feeling loved, cared for, being regularly sexually active etc. and giving all that back to someone.

It’s finding that balance in life.

But you don't need any more cushions!

I can put my hair in a messy bun, cover my face in coconut oil and sucocrem, put on my Christmas pyjamas and eat a bag of sweet chilli sensations at 12pm while watching masterchef if I want to. Nobody can stop me! Fuck I need to get out more!

Not answering to anyone else or explaining myself.

I'd say things stay where I put them but I have two children but it's only me and them. It works, we float along in our own little bubble quite happily. I don't have another adult to argue with, challenge me for my way of doing things or creating mess that they aren't willing to help clean up.

I can have as many purple, pink, sparkly things in my house that I want along with all my skulls and candles.

It's peaceful and freeing and our safe space from the rest of the world.

London

I went from my parents home to marital home, always compromising until I left my husband. At 43 I was on my own (with two children) for the first time and I loved it.

I still had to compromise, as I didn't allow men into my home, went out when the girls were with their dad, but generally I didn't have to answer to anybody.

I met Ben here seven years ago. My girls are now married with families of their own, but now I've become "selfish". It's my house, I pay all the bills, ill health and covid has meant he hasn't worked in over a year: I don't have to compromise on anything!

I'm sorry to hear that your partner has been ill - but doesn't it get on your nerves that he's always there?

May I ask if you and Ben are living together? It's not exactly clear.

If so, are you saying that his illness and lack of income is causing tension because you are paying the bills or were there already issues before you reached this stage?
