Mahalia Jackson & Ella Fitzgerald can knock em out the park
As much as it pains me, Celine Dion has a stunning voice
In terms of current singers, I'm liking Celeste

There's a few been mentioned that I'd agree with.
I think some probably make the list because they got good material.
However, for me, the best vouches can sing some crap song, but you hear that "thing".
The thing that just makes them special.
Elvis, Nat, Karen Carpenter people with voices that you immediately feel.
My number one is Billie Holiday though. |

I don't know about "best", but certain singers have moved me, with certain songs they sing: "stopped me" in my tracks. They include:
Extreme
Nora Jones
Elton John
Bee Gees
Karen White
Roberta Flack
Luther Vandross
Stevie Wonder
Mariah Carey
Bruno Mars
Justin Beiber
Michael Bublé
Lin-Manuel Miranda...and many more I'm sure.

I don't know if he is up there with the greats, but I think Will Young is a fantastic singer
I've seen him live twice and was also lucky enough to see him play Emcee in Cabaret
He was absolutely superb in that role
After Joel Grey in the original film, he is by far the best Emcee I have seen
People rave about Alan Cummings, but I thought his take on the character missed the mark |

"Whos your favourite, im going with Karen carpenter, whatcha got "
Far too many great singers to just pick a favourite
But, I have always thought Robert Plant and Ian Gillan had great voices, and I do like listening to Frank Sinatra |

Objectively Judy Garland is considered the 'greatest' singer of all time (well the 20th century) by many people.
'... opera singer Maria Callas once said that Garland possessed "the most superb voice she had ever heard", while singer and actor Bing Crosby said that "no other singer could be compared to her"...' |

obviously the list is endless..and it is really a generation thing..for me the singers that changed the face of music over the last possibly 100 years...in order.
Frank Sinatra.
Elvis Presley ( albeit im not a big fan)..
The Beatles.
Michael Jackson.
ButI'm not saying that they had great voices, apart from Sinatra..
and Nat Cole has to be up there for his voice alone.

Layne Staley from Alice in Chains
The contrast of his powerful delivery and the mellow, beautiful harmonies with Jerry Cantrel never fail to give me goosebumps.
Unfortunately another tortured soul claimed by heroin |

The whole of Dirt is killer. Not a bad track on it, but my favourite is Down in a hole. |

I’m quite partial to a bit of Will Young. His version of “What the World Needs Now is Love” is beautiful. |
