...Smile This really gets my goat, why do people feel the need to tell someone else to smile? If I'm grumpy, I'm grumpy. Telling me to smile will only wind me up more.

What things that people say wind you up?

*Disclaimer, I'm not grumpy at the moment but I maybe if anyone tells me to smile

I'm not keen on being told to do anything especially by complete strangers. I was on a residential course years ago and one of the men told me I should wear make up .

Yeah, got to respect the frown.

I used to work with a guy who walked around smiling all the time for no reason. Really used to fuck me off - there was nothing to smile about. It was a shite job. I never told him to frown though. I respected his right to be a smug prick. Guy used to sit in the work tearoom and eat a whole tomato for his lunch. Bastard.

Don’t ...

- call me boss or buddy/mate unless I am yours.

- use the C bomb out loud.

- say you’ll do it straightaway if you’re not going to do it straightaway.

- say you’ll turn up and then don’t.

And no, you don’t know what I am thinking!

No, I haven’t recently been involved in a car accident that wasn’t my fault, nor any other kind of accident.

Oh God, the list is endless ...

So how should we address those that we need to speak to? Sir and Ma'am is just too formal and calling folks cunts may not go down well with everyone.

Lol. It was the samean who told me all proudly that he "let" his wife play badminton once a week . He did have the good grace to look embarrassed when I questioned his use of the word let lol¡

I think it was the assumption that I should be concerned with men finding me attractive while on a very serious course that annoyed me along with him imagining that I should look how he wanted me to.

There and to the left a bit

Being told things like "smile it may never happen" is on a par with being told to "be nice" or "be kind" and other worthless hollow sentiments (in my opinion) for me personally - I'll smile naturally when I have reason to smile, likewise I won't *be* nice or kind because I am told to, I'll do so because I am being naturally so when I am doing those things.

Outside of work there isn't a lot that people say that would wind me up as usually there intentions are to try to cheer you up or if they call me love, or hun or duck or whatever else there just using it as a term of endearment so would never get offended unless I knew they were using it to be condescending. But if we were talking about in work things people say I could literally fill an entire forum of things that wind me up haha
