Soo hopefully you’ve seen the news! The new James Bond is now been confirmed!

Lashana Lynch will play 007 in the new film!

This is no way intended to be sexiest but.......

I personally feel that James Bond should always be a wealthy upper class English gentleman!

I think the whole bond franchise is in danger of ruining there brand by letting a women take the 007 title!

Thoughts and views please!

Think the world needs to stop trying to prove that women can do everything. James Bond always has been a man and there's no need to change that. Make a different franchise sure but don't change everything away from men to make your point. And this is the wife talking before anyone jumps on me for sexism

There's loads of strong female action figures in films.

They could create a role within those boundaries. A strong bi woman who likes cars.

Obviously James Bond has to be a man, by the very nature of the name...

HOWEVER!.. 007 doesn’t have to be a man, and it could be a really interesting direction to take if Bond dies/retires in the new film and the next 007 is a woman.

In conclusion....

James Bond is a man

007 doesn’t have to be James Bond

A new female character could be great as 007

She is not the new James Bond, she is the new 007. Bond has been exiled.

I think having a black, female secret agent as the lead in the new films is a very interesting evolution for the franchise. Red Sparrow was one of my favourite recent spy thrillers and I have no reason to believe this can’t be a success too with good plots and relevant storylines.

007 is the numerical sequence for the operative.

James Bond is the 7th agent to be licensed to kill, therefore he's 007.

The role could be played by a female agent, licensed as 008.

Other actors have played agents with 00 designation, Sean Bean was 006.

The new miss Marple is going to be Robert lyndsey...

Thomas magnum has been recast as a sexy female...

Jack regan sweeney.... And so on..

And yep op... 007 is based on the books, which were about a male spy... If they want to make a film with a lead character as a woman spy there are plenty to choose from.

It's not really an issue having a female lead so much as in 007 the lead character is a male. But what do I know..

I love that Get Woke, go broke bollocks. So catchy you’d think Trump would use it.

The Black Panther was one of the most ‘Woke’ movies of the Marvel franchise and it broke records. Good plots and relevant story lines with excellent acting and cinematography are what makes for good films. If the 007 franchise manages to do this, it will continue to be a success.

Shit storylines, poor cinematography and crap acting will usually cause a franchise to fail. The 00 franchise has had both but still survives, this evolution will be determined not by how ‘Woke’ it is, but by how good the films are.

This is semi fake news, it is true that she will be playing 007 ( but not James Bond ) at the very beginning of the film. Bond effectively retired at the end of spectre so obviously his position with SIS is up for grabs.

However bond will be returning to active duty before the end of the movie, and the current replacement will be dead or just simply replaced by bond.

The broccoli legacy have always said through all this that the series will always be bond led.

What this is though is a nice little thing for the media to kick up a storm over winding up people for the sake of controversy and of cause a lovely way to get people talking about the movie. The same snippet of news was released this time last year ready for the first release date, it’s not new news but is being used for the same manipulation.

They (the press who generally whip these things up, rather see if it’s successful) argued that no blonde actor should play Bond. He did and in my opinion (and the box office!) he did a bloody good job, at modernising the film series.

Now they’re doing it again, good on them try something new if it doesn’t work just change the actor again ...to Idris Elba (my choice )

Close....

The next 00 designated agent will be 008, so could be male or female. But obviously wouldn't be James Bond.

I personally feel that James Bond should always be a wealthy upper class English gentleman!

Not sure how you can make that statement and claim it's not sexist... Especially as you follow it with a but

To me James Bond 007 is a male role! The cars, the women, the fight/action scenes. I just can’t see a female lead actor pulling that role off

Women can drive cars, you know. And get it on with other women. And fight and run and all that.

If your point is "I like James Bond as it is and a woman 007 doesn't appeal" then that's your opinion, of course, but don't claim it's not sexist cos of cars/women/fighting. That is sexist. "

"Men have taken women's roles for hundreds of years and in some cases, principal boy in panto for instance, women have taken men's.

It's a genre inversion. It's how stories stay fresh, people change things up.

Do things need to be "changed up"? "

Well it's how every story has ever been made. By changing bits of older stories. Otherwise every romance or piece of erotica would be "boy meets girl, a struggle or dilemma happens, they get together, end"

It's just some things for some people are over the line. Which is fine, personal preference and all of that. But that doesn't mean it can't be made, it just means you don't like it. (even when there might be other arguments - there are some media I avoid because of what I regard as problematic or dangerous messages - the stuff still gets made, and your or my arguments against stand on their merits)

James Bond was an icon of a sexist, misogynistic, world where women were simply there as eye candy and to be slept with. He was a skeuomorph from a view of the world that is well past a time when it was acceptable. Daniel Craig said as much back in 2015 in his interviews about the role.

To remain relevant it had to evolve.

We can look back nostalgically at the Connery, Moore and Brosnan era, but writing a screenplay for 2020 and onwards, in my view, needs to be done in a way that is in tune with times.

Promoting a misogynist as a hero is not in my view a recipe for continued success of any franchise.

I’d like to seem them take the movies back to their original time period, out of the modern world. Maybe with a suitable actor for that era, Michael fassbender or Tom hiddleston could be interesting ..

Play nice people... It was just a debate about a film franchise... One which historically has gloried in sexist tropes and whilst more recent offerings have been thin gruel as far as character development... Had historically devoted lots of footage to bond's character and overt sexual conquests.... Pussy galore in fact.

Guesses on the names of the female 007s counterparts?

I enjoyed the ocean's 11 with George Clooney and the gang as much as I did ocean's 8. Which kind of shows it is possible to change the leading roles genders without compromising the enjoyment of the film

As a matter of fact, I’d be really interested to see what Lashana Lynch could do as 008, or 009, or 005 or whatever OTHER 00 number. Instead, she’s there to replace Bond, because the popular message from Hollywood these days is straight white men = bad. It’s done purely to make a ‘look how progressive we are’ statement. Screw Ian Fleming, screw the people who like Bond for how he was written -including the millions of women who like him-, screw the fact they could have easily just made her a new 00 and kept everyone happy, because the purpose was to cause controversy and uproar as a marketing tactic.

Exactly and the mindset of the audience going to see it. If you've already decided it's a rubbish film because a woman is at the helm, you're just going to pick faults in the film. Which is relatively easy to do in a Bond film as it is

I think gender is irrelevant if the script and acting is good. Maybe they will spin it in a different direction and bring it upto date. I have always been a fan of bond, but must admit prefer Daniel Craig’s portrayal as it’s more realistic, he actually gets hurt and is human. Whereas the older bonds were suave, sophisticated and untouchable. They also objectified women. And if you saw some of Connerys actions in his films it was bordering on non consent etc.

I think the one things that has always been a selling point for me is the cool gadgets he always had and crappy quips when someone was dealt with.

So what do we do? Endlessly recycle 007 as the same person essentially? Ignore the fact that the character has been going in film for nearly 60 years and is still the same person?

The last film showed that Bond was getting old, struggling to keep up with younger agents... it makes perfect sense that he would retire or die and a new agent take over as 007, and this being a female should be of no issue... they could easily then rebadge the franchise as 007 rather than Bond so you get continuity without repetition

Or is your issue the fact it’s a woman?

So what am I missing, Mr Comprehensible?"

You're failing to comprehend that Lynch was only talking about the upcoming film... not the future of the franchise. In the new film she'll be 007, Bond having retired. Then they'll recast James Bond and make a new film in the franchise, maybe Lynch will get a spin off, maybe not.

The character is going to remain. Your diatribe is baseless. If you need a hand understanding any other issues, just call on Mr Comprehensible right here

Of cause the problem here is it’s perpetuating the idea that a woman couldn’t front a franchise of her own successfully and would need to take over from a man in order for the movie to gain any success.

And the real beauty of the real story here is that as soon as the man comes back to work she’s dumped from her position and he walks straight back in to his old job ..

Ahemcough, Sean Bean as 006.

I’m all for equality but in life there are roles that are more suited to men. Take the army. Women have been able to do the P company fitness test to join the Parachute regiment since the 90’s but it’s taken 30 years for one to actually pass it, in February of this year actually. They don’t make the weights lighter or give a few more seconds to complete a task like they normally do for other military fitness tests for women. If you can’t pass it as it is you can’t be in Para reg. She must be incredibly fit and fully deserves it. But in front line combat women are more of a target, men will instinctively protect a woman more than a man. Men are genetically stronger there’s no getting away from that. It doesn’t make us less we actually have the higher pain thresholds than men but we aren’t stronger generally.

"Nearly right...She will be playing 007, not James Bond. The 00 prefix means 'licensed to kill', and the codename is passed on to another agent upon retirement, or death.

Close....

The next 00 designated agent will be 008, so could be male or female. But obviously wouldn't be James Bond.

There are sequential numbers but they are not assigned in a sequential order. 006 may have come before bond’ 007 in golden eye or after 0011

"Soo hopefully you’ve seen the news!

"Seen Ghostbusters mentioned a couple of times, Ghostbusters 2 was a pretty rubbish film in my opinion. Maybe the first one was such a classic that it's difficult to improve on.

I enjoyed the ocean's 11 with George Clooney and the gang as much as I did ocean's 8. Which kind of shows it is possible to change the leading roles genders without compromising the enjoyment of the film

"

James Bond is 007 - a white heterosexual man.

End of.

I wish they'd just leave it alone.

I have no problem with them doing a 'spin off', but don't mess with what isn't broken.

Whats next?

Make a different franchise sure but don't change everything away from men to make your point. And this is the wife talking before anyone jumps on me for sexism "

Absolutely this 110%, it’s getting a little tedious this desperation big companies and franchises trying to be so PC. Look at us, we’re amazing, we hired a woman. Women rule all.

Yes and the Kurdish female fighters go head to head with ISIS I understand that but I’d be the hardest person in the room if I was holding a M16. I’m talking a standard fitness test that’s open to both men and women, 100’s of men pass P company every year. It’s taken 30 years for one woman to have the strength and fitness levels needed to pass that same test. Those stats would suggest to me that men are stronger and fitter than women. There’s no shame in that, they’re bigger they’ve got more testosterone, evolution made it that way.

She's going to be 007. Not James bond. James bond has retired or will be retiring and she's the next agent to be taking that code number, he'll obviously come back or it'll be a short movie. Doesn't mean she'll carry on in subsequent movies.

Bond has already retired as of spectre, she’s 007 at the beginning but he takes his job back by the end and she looses the 007 designation ... and status.

"It’s pathetic pandering to the woke brigade, who will all be celebrating now that they’ve taken down the ‘holy grail’ of alleged toxic masculinity. Let’s see how many turn up for the next film, because no one who likes Bond now will be interested, and those who don’t like Bond now still won’t be interested because it’s still Bond in theory. Get woke go broke!

Comprehension clearly not your strong point...

So what am I missing, Mr Comprehensible?

You're failing to comprehend that Lynch was only talking about the upcoming film... not the future of the franchise. In the new film she'll be 007, Bond having retired. Then they'll recast James Bond and make a new film in the franchise, maybe Lynch will get a spin off, maybe not.

The character is going to remain. Your diatribe is baseless. If you need a hand understanding any other issues, just call on Mr Comprehensible right here "

The original post implies the character James Bond 007 has been replaced to preach gender and diversity politics, just like the trailer also implies, just like has already happened with many other popular franchises that are now stone dead as a result.

The irony is Hollywood don’t even care about the values they claim to support. The entire purpose is to create division, which creates arguments (is this starting to sound familiar?) which then allow woke media sites to virtue signal and call out any who opposes radical, unwanted changes to a beloved franchise.

But hey what do I know, with the success of Terminator Dark Fate, Ghostbusters 2016, Doctor Who, Birds of Prey, Black Christmas 2019, Star Wars and many other examples, clearly they know what audiences want

How can she be the new James Bond. James Bond is a male name. It sounds like a spin-off. If this happens its ruined the whole image of Bond. The bosses have beloved to pressure from other groups. I would expect the film to be less action orientated aswell.

She may be 007 to start but her name is Nomi and plays alongside James Bond.

00s is just a number assigned to individuals, if I was her I’d opt for 008 the only other one (except 007) not to have been k*lled in the line of duty.

It’s fiction, it’s moving on from the time it was written, women have been spy’s for years (reality), lighten up

It doesn’t make us less we actually have the higher pain thresholds than men but we aren’t stronger generally.

The Israeli army have always had women in front line roles... they have never lost a war

I’m ex Army and I can categorically state that strength isn’t the be all and end all, and I’d dispute that men are fitter... the point stands though, Women can and do carry out these roles, so the idea of a female secret agent shouldn’t be ridiculed..... they’ve been doing it for decades already...

Fair play. I’d never have made the army. I would’ve been sacked for sucking everyone off in their sleep. "

You’d have been extremely popular!

If you need a hand understanding any other issues, just call on Mr Comprehensible right here

But hey what do I know, with the success of Terminator Dark Fate, Ghostbusters 2016, Doctor Who, Birds of Prey, Black Christmas 2019, Star Wars and many other examples, clearly they know what audiences want "

Haha - they really killed off those popular franchises like..

Terminator (peaked with terminator 2 in 1991, franchise shit since then)

Ghostbusters (previous franchise ended 1989)

Doctor Who (still going strong last time I checked, certainly not killed off)

Birds of Prey (this example doesn't fit. They changed no character gender, just had a female hero led film)

Black Christmas (fuck knows what this is, but I'm going to go out on a limb and say probably not the most wildly successful franchise in the world)

Star Wars (might want to check the box office on the latest installments of that franchise... if that's killing off the franchise then fuck knows what success looks like!)

Unfortunately your examples here, like your initial post, are not based on reality. Rather it's an expose of some depressingly boring misogyny.

"Ooh! Ooh! Is there a new Bond film? I wonder how they will promote it this time?

Hilarious isn't it? The perfect double whammy...get the self-righteous traditionalists knickers in a twist whilst simultaneously having the progressive brigade creaming their knickers at the prospect...and this thread has exemplified that perfectly.

Kudos to the PR/marketing team behind it!!

Personally all I'm interested in is whether it's a good film or not!!"

I've never watched anything Bond related and likely never will.

I just think this boo boo over nothing is hilarious and telling.

I'll watch the reaction threads

"Happy if she's just another '00', but Bond should always be a man. "

Bond is a man, 007 doesn’t have to be they are two separate things

Get an idea of the movie which is way past it’s release date and trailers been doing the rounds since 2019.... type in No Time to Die in YouTube and you’ll see Bond & Nomi in action

Based on the trailers I'm looking forward to seeing it and apart from a brief interlude (Moonraker to View To A Kill when the franchise lost the plot in my opinion) always have.

Oh, fucking hell, not this shit again.

No, the new James Bond is *not* a black woman.

Lyshana Lynch is playing Nomi, the agent who now holds the 007 designation. James Bond himself isn't using it because he retired at the end of Spectre.

This was confirmed back in December 2019. It was then confirmed again back in July, and for some reason has been confirmed again in the last few days.

The fact that this is still being trotted out as "news" is just misogynistic shit-stirring.

"007" is the code name. "James Bond" is the person. The idea that "James Bond" is part of the code name is at the present time just a fan theory, perhaps influenced by the multiple decoy "James Bond 007s" in the non-canonical 1967 Casino Royale spoof.

There is strong and long-established precedent for different characters carrying the various 00-numbers.

002 is killed in Thunderball. An entirely different 002 is then also killed in The Living Daylights.

003 appears in Thunderball. A different 003 is found dead in A View to a Kill.

004 appears in Thunderball. A different 004 is killed in The Living Daylights.

006 appears in Thunderball. A different 006 is killed in Goldeneye.

009 appears in Thunderball. A different 009 is killed Octopussy. 009 is then mentioned in both The World Is Not Enough and Spectre, so presumably there is at least one more.

(Interestingly, Ian Fleming mentions a 0011 in the Moonraker novel.)

"Yep And it is referred to as the "double o" section. There are only 9 at any time - dead person's shoes meant their number was up!"

Not true. According to the movie version of Thunderball, there are a *minimum* of nine 00 agents. (Incidentally, according to the novel Moonraker, there are only *three* 00 agents active at any one time, and Bond is the most senior.)

"James Bond isn’t Doctor Who"

Maybe he's a different Time Lord. That would explain all the different incarnations. I reckon Mary Poppins is a Time Lord too.

The Fab forums are shockingly misogynistic and right-wing place at the best of times, but it's especially intense in this thread. People unironically saying "PC gone mad" and "Get woke go broke", for fuck's sake. Handy for knowing who to block, I guess.

The movies themselves prove this theory wrong, each actor can be seen referencing his past missions portrayed by other actors. Lazenby packing up his desk has items in it from his missions, missions from the Sean Connery movies, Roger Moore pays respect to his dead wife at her grave (married in the lazenby movie) the brosnan movies also reference at least his thunder all adventure in q’s lab.

That's right. At least as far as the Brosnan movies, the different actors are explicitly all playing the same character.

The jury is out on just how much of a reboot the Craig films are. Matt Mira of the James Bonding podcast theorises that all the other Bond films are set *between* the Craig movies, so that the Craig we see in Spectre has had all the adventures depicted in the earlier movies.

I guess I just wonder why attach this to 007. What is the original entity still in place? Feels like loyalty to some sports teams. Owned by investment funds, entire line up replaced every few years, move grounds etc... get to a point where there's nothing left of the original outside a commercial entity, so what's there even left to cling on to?

Is it that 007 is merely how the same story gets a winder audience? Makes more profit than if it were not part of a franchise?

As I mentioned further up I think it's clever PR on the part of the franchise as it's stirred up precisely what you've said here and knotted many knickers and got people publicising it - but on the flip side it's also got the opposite camp clapping their hands with glee at the prospect of a change.

Reality is it plays to neither group and does so perfectly

A woman trained in combat, overcoming a man... ridiculous, unrealistic, impossible to suspend your disbelief.

A lazer fight in space, and invisible car, a secret base under a volcano... gritty realism?
