She was quite the character, definitely non conformist. I wonder if she would have approved of her statue. I suspect she might.

I've always been struck by what her husband, the anarchist philosopher William Godwin said on the death of Mary:

"I firmly believe there does not exist her equal in the world. I know from experience we were formed to make each other happy. I have not the least expectation that I can now ever know happiness again."

It wasn't really an appropriate representation for someone who cleared the way for a revision of male privilege, in my opinion. It's another me - too echo of the kind of stuff churned out by male dominated society that represents nothing new, nor what she symbolises.
