"So apparently some young children are forgetting how to use a knife and fork because of schools closure..
Isn't that supposed to be something kids should learn at home...
"
Let me hazard a guess, this has come via social media! |

Not just kids. Teens too... or at least that’s why our fucking lazy ass teenage boy was eating rice with his fingers the other day, despite having a fork on his plate... kids eh. |

When I was in Denmark a restaurant owner claimed to have invented the knork basically a fork and knife combined,
Chuck in a spork and the kids would be sorted
Or they could liquidise the meal so it could be eaten through a straw

Yes it is but not always the case. When i worked in a care home we had many children who when first came to stay were unable to use a knife and fork. |

think its sad really if thats true.
shows that family sitting at a table together enjoying dinner is long gone.
when i was a boy things were very different. soon as mum called dinner it was wash hands and sit down at the table.
no tv or distractions while at the table and we had to ask to leave after we had finished.
somethings are important for that family bonding so not to become disfunctional.

In many new homes there is no room for a table let alone sit around it.. |

possibly also too many distractions.
we only had one tv and today plenty of them in homes. internet wifi and everyone staring at the phone instead of having a meaning conversation.
we use to play board games as a family when i was young i guess todays generation would prefer the playstation and being alone or with mates online.
just feels like the family isnt as important as it use to be.

If you put them in a care home you can kiss goodbye to your inheritance! Have you seen how much they cost?! |

What twaddle..
I did get told off by school though because one of ours says Fork N’ Knife
As in “Where’s my.......”
Took us a while to get her to stop because we couldn’t help laughing so she just did it more..

"It’s a bit of misleading headline as usual, but why am I not surprised.
When they say school they don’t mean primary and above, they are referring to early years care from nursery to pre school. "
Well thank you for that input. I only saw the headline and not the detail .. |

No, those OFSTED so called experts
Never!
Yes. I imagind they are making sweeping generalisations based on one case study "
That's the problem with imagining Tom as opposed to finding out. The report was based on findings after visiting 900 schools and early years providers. The report also didn't focus on the use of knife and fork, it was given as an example asking with children who had been potty trained reverting to nappies.
You should read it it, you may learn something instead of having to imagine all the time.

In fact as I understand it, all OFSTED inspections have been cancelled since March.. just leftish bull..
They obviously monitor cutlery use remotely.. perhaps the kids have forgotten to use cutlery because school meals are virtually gone.

I suppose that is the difference between an OFSTED inspection and using the organisations skills and expertise to carry out an important job of assessing the impact of Covid restrictions on child welfare and education? |

This isn't new. When our kids were in primary school 25 or more years ago we had many of their friends round for tea who had never sat at a table to eat and ate whatever I served with their fingers. |

My son never had school dinners... yet is capable of eating correctly. One thing he was taught from a very young age. As a family we enjoy restaurants too so he was taught that in grown up establishments he had to act as a grown up or wouldn’t be permitted to go. He understood from around age 5 how to use cutlery correctly and that If in a silver service situation it’s the outside in or little to big. |
