My dad and his brothers saw active service in Africa, Italy and many other places, including Monte Casino. They were just teenagers, very young men who never spoke of it but they were hugely proud and ashamed of their contributions.
Whatever anybody thinks of war, sacrifice, bloodshed, power and freedom, I ask that you respect the impossible position all men were placed in to fight and stop awhile.

Our town is known as the town that never forgets. We usually have a huge parade, this is the first year since it started in 1924 that it has had to be cancelled.
However, the organisers have put an A4 poster through thousands of letterboxes, asking that we display them in our window. They will sound an air raid siren at 11am and again 2 minutes later. A small wreath laying ceremony will be live streamed online for those who wish to watch. There will also be a spitfire flying over the town dropping poppies, the plan is to try to drop some over every house.
I’ve had the privilege of seeing the parade and taking part in honouring armistice day in our town when I worked in the middle of town. It was beautiful and very moving. Tomorrow’s may be very different to normal but I’m sure it will be just as beautiful in its own way |

I always do... my Grandpa came home...I have amazing pics of him in his POW camp...
My Papa was lucky and wasn't allowed to leave... he was a pit blacksmith and was required at home.
Gran was in London and a parachute machinist, Nana was a (fake) pharmacist.... they got to live through without their partners.
Am glad Im a living memory of that x |

We forget in this modern age what we owe, what they endured, how they suffered, starved and sacrificed... & for what exactly...?

My Dad was a couple of years to young to be in the war but two of his brother where killed,I also have a cousin who was killed in Northern Ireland
So I shall stand proud at 11am and remember all of our fallen heros

Today not only marked the anniversary of the ending of the first World War but also the 100th anniversary of the internment of the unknown warrior in Westminster Abbey, I have just watched, with tear filled eyes and a lump in my throat, the most moving service at the Abbey to mark this occasion.
I cannot help being sentimental old bugger. |
