Got my 6 tattoos between the age of 16 and 21.
Was always planning more but I went totally off them around 10 years ago.
The ones I have don't bother me at all as they're just part of me now, but if I had never got them, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have ever got any. |

"I've got 3, 2 on my upper right arm and one on my upper left arm. One of the ones on my right arm covers my very first tattoo I had done when I was 22. "
That's the thing for me making sure I'd be happy for life with it..

I love them though I have none of my own. My regret is not actually getting them when I was younger because my ex used to call them tramp stamps. I'm older now and I worry too much if I'll like it in a few years time to actually go through with it now |

I have one that I hate. The joys of being young and in love ...thankfully it's only small and can't be seen unless I'm naked. I will have it covered when I can find something I like...dont want to be in the same boat again in a few years |

Tattoo virgin and intend on staying that way. I can appreciate the art and how well it can look on people, but personally not for me.
Nowadays I feel that not being tattooed is the new exotic as I know very few people who don't have at least one, even if tiny. |

I haven't got tattoos as I knew that one wouldn't have been enough and 30 years or so ago it wasn't such a big thing.
I did end up having my nose pierced three times and just having it pierced once was a bit 'different' then. Stopped wearing anything in the holes in my late 30s/early 40s. |

I’ve always thought about it but never have mainly because where I’d want one is quite hairy & im not one for shaving arms legs etc.
H has a 6” Celtic style one at the base of her back which she wants to get made bigger.
An ex of mine spent a fortune having a colour vine done. It started at the tip of her little toe wen around her ankle bone, ran all the way up her leg getting bigger till it was big enough to have wildlife in amongst it.
A gecko on her thigh then onto her back then it grew to cover both shoulders with a lizard & bird within the leaves.
It was beautiful though.

They’re totally unoriginal and cliche form of rebellion, far more original not to have any. It’s the tattoos I don’t like, nothing to do with the people, there’s plenty of lovely people who get them, but when I spot them on someone I like I’m always a bit disappointed, that yes, they too have a tattoo. |

This as a biker and an ex soldier I’m one of the rare non tattooed in the group. Always asked when I’m getting ‘inked up’.
They use to have a lot of cache with me as a younger man, the people who had them seemed like dangerous people to know. Now Police, Grannies, Midwifes and MP’s are inked up
The rebellious side of them have all but disappeared and the fashion fad taken over.
I will add, no issue with the people who have them or make a living from the artistry of them. I just won’t now, as the reason to have them in my opinion has lost its lustre for me. |

What’s that expression, I want to be like everyone else ?
Surely, the 'expression' is 'personal' therefore different to other's idea of it!
If that makes any sense
They scream ‘I’m so individual’ while the vast majority of people you know have them, I’ll stick with being a blank canvas.
See, that's cool...I'm not gonna judge you for not having any...it's a shame you've decided I'm unoriginal and boring just cos I do...
*shrugs*
He didn't say unoriginal he said individual "
Actually, he did...further up the thread.

"They’re totally unoriginal and cliche form of rebellion, far more original not to have any. It’s the tattoos I don’t like, nothing to do with the people, there’s plenty of lovely people who get them, but when I spot them on someone I like I’m always a bit disappointed, that yes, they too have a tattoo.
Are they a form of rebellion now a days?... I don't think they are.
I think they are more an expression of self

I never said ‘boring’, it’s the tattoos I don’t like nothing to do with the people who get them. |

I've got six tattoos none of which I regret as I left it until I turned 30 to get them, also spend alot of time thinking about placement and the right tattoo artist before getting them done. Other half has a few tattoos some are cover ups but majority he likes. |

Not boring, I referred to unoriginal.
My bad if I misread it!

Boring was what I got from what you said...not a direct quote...
I don't mind people not liking my inkwork...its only for me
I do take offence to being called unoriginal tho...most of the tattoos I wear I designed myself. That's like accusing a writer of plagiarism...

"I have loads of tattoos, they become a bit of an addiction. I only regret the one but all have some meaning for me.
Never have any on my face or neck though, I think that’s one step to far.
What's the addictive bit of the process for you?
I find the sound of the needle enough to give me the urge to have one. That and the fact that it’s someone artwork and a memory of a particular time, experience or frame of mind.
What about the pain!!?
They’re generally not that painful but in the odd instance I actually quite enjoy it.
I like a bit of pleasurable pain myself "
pleasurable pain is always good. |

I’m talking about the act of having a tattoo is unoriginal, which it is, the tattoo itself maybe a one off, I’m not disputing that. |

I've got one that I had done in New Zealand 25 years ago.
So of course it's just a messy blue blur - thankfully I can't see it without a mirror and it's something I can cover.
I don't think people realise that tatooes usually look awful after a decade or so.
And tastes are never permanent.

This made me giggle. The response i get when people find out I’ve got them is “someone like you” doesn’t do things like this.. |

Love them.
Had my first one well over 20 years ago, I remember my dad's reaction
Just like any art it is subjective and I don't expect everyone to like them.
I have had 2 cover ups done of the only tattoos that had no back story to them but I love all I have now

I have a number of tattoos and my next one is booked.
I started getting ink in my late 30's and will continue for a while yet.
I have had my first tattoo covered by another as I disliked the design, I changed tattoo artists and have since used the same artist for all of my ink.
I love my tattoos, I enjoy the feeling of happiness they give me when I see them every day.
I very much enjoy being with a lover as they trace their fingers over the ink and are really taking in the detail of the design as I watch them, and they kiss my tattoos or grab at them during sex.
I am looking forward to being an old lady chatting away about my wrinkled ink to my great grandchildren
