I’ve been on the paracetamol, Ibuprofen and I’ve been walking round work to stretch it out, till I get home to my tiger balm what are you guys remedies for back pain?

I get all my period pain in my lower back. I take Feminax express, its specifically for period aches and pains, maybe you could try that?

I also ball my hand into a fist and rub it in circular motions on my lower back.

Mine was caused (this time) by a 13kg reel ask me to move the 2 tonne one. No bother! 13kg and I break myself

I’ll maybe give the Feminax a miss till I’m actually unable to move from the floor

Ah I’ve had two of the big pink Ibuprofen today already

I’m not a big fan of pain killers but today seemed to be a different story

If it's muscular, paracetamol and ibuprofen plus heat and gentle exercise, then wait it out.

I googled lower back pain and found great video clips on youtube which really helped with my back pain.

I think you’ve pretty much got it covered OP.

Try not to aggravate it further, but keeping mobile is always best, stop and you will seize up and it’ll become worse.

Keeping pain killers to a minimum is also good. Can do more harm if you suddenly think Ahh it doesn’t hurt so much now, they can give you a false sense of being better.

Hope you get through it soon, I know from experience how you are feeling.

Definitely get advice if it seems to be nerve pain e.g. tingling, burning sensation, electric shocks that travel down a limb etc. You don't want to end up with nerve compression due to a disc prolapse or something. Been there, done it, got the wheelchair (although mine's a bit more complex than that)

It always stems from a car crash at 70mph years ago but it comes and goes today it’s particularly bad as I’ve probably twisted thinking “13kg pfft piece of piss” and not lifted them correctly

I’m hoping the tiger balm will he’ll when I get in the door tonight but for now the seat has been removed from the lab so I don’t get tempted to sit down and I’m just moving around

Yes, severe nerve pain, inability to weight bear, inability to perform straight leg raise, eventually slight foot drop. At no point was I taken seriously. I spent 16/12/16 to 03/02/17 living in bed because I couldn't move. "It's just pelvic girdle pain" said the docs, no pain relief allowed apart from paracetamol because 3rd trimester. Baby born 04/02, finally MRI'd on 07/02 to find far lateral L4/5 disc with complete nerve root compression. Sent home several days later with newborn baby, unable to walk/weight bear with crutches. Turns out I'd also had lumbosacral plexus nerve injury and have now got permanent nerve injury. Took months to be referred to spinal consultant after the birth, initially offered discectomy then they decided no. Took 2yrs to be seen by a neurologist. Go figure *shrug*

Often times trauma will set off a cycle of frequent bouts of back pain. What can be frustrating is that in a lot of cases the imaging doesn't show anything particularly wrong, though the person will still present pain. Sucks I know.

Had an electric blanket given to me a few years ago, and I find when I’m struggling a bit it really helps loosen up the muscles a bit.

That's clearly a case of negligence as you were presenting severe neurological / radicular signs. Not much that could've been done whilst pregnant i'm afraid, but immediate assistance should have been provided after.

Clearly not your case, but mechanical back pain without neuro signs has no surgical target.

While stretching would be best I do need to watch with that too with one arthritic hip and the other held by metal it can cause other problems

I don’t take Naproxen as I was given them without the PPI once and they wreaked havoc on my stomach

Christ how many things do I have wrong with me

Daily omeprazole tabs is now my way of life due to Naproxen

I use a freeze spray called Biofreeze when my back is playing up (not the deep heat branded one, that's pants)...I've found that in conjunction with ibuprofen works best for me

As a rough guide, new injuries need ice, old injuries need heat.

Gentle movement, backs dont like being immobile.

You can alternate Ibuprofen and Paracetamol every 2 hours if necessary, in the short term.

I suffered pain in my back at least 3 times a week for over a year, and more of I forgot to not bend wrong or had to carry heavy objects.

I've now been back pain free for over 8 months and the only thing I did different were:

1) Went to get a sports massage focusing on my damaged / weak muscles

2) Started doing a 30min Yoga session (that I found on YouTube), 4 times a week today focuses on core and back strength.

I can still feel my back isn't right sometimes, but the pain is gone.

Heat within a day of injury otherwise are increasing the chronic it’s. Ice helps pain allowing mobility, and reduced inflammation. Forget doctors- get to a good osteopath or chiropractic

That would be spinal stenosis then. It can be managed conservatively (physio, injections) or operatively depending on severity of symptoms.

Very few ppl actually reach that state because of it. I've only come across one in 22 years.

Cat and camel exercises. My back was bad at the weekend and I was doing twenty gentle ones every couple of hours.

I do them every morning anyway. I go to a chiropractor when it's really bad but that's expensive.

Exercise seems to be what helps me most. Followed my heat.

Maybe that's just my particular condition but if I give up and rest too much then I do pay for it in pain and stiffness. I'd recommend swimming but current situation maybe not

Also if you have a wand then its really good on sore muscles I've found. An added bonus lol

Heat heat and more heat. I use a beanie bag microwaved. When it cools down go ahead and re heat . Swimming is the best exercise for most lower back pain.

Evaluate if there's a cause. Find a solution.

To ease the pain, I'd use hot baths, not stop moving, possibly get a massage, have ice put on it - especially if localised pain, appropriate stretches great too. Be progressive in your approach, listening in to what your body is saying.

If gentle self help doesn't work, probably see a physio. I wouldn't muck around with back pain. (Qualification in this case - I'm quite illness prone and a bit injury prone so have an overactive sense of when to ask for help )
