"R/languagelearning and r/languageexchange on Reddit. There are various apps for language exchange and tutors (not sure if I can name them here, they get mentioned on the first subreddit)" why thank you that was quick so there will be local tutors too. We have tried with the apps but we think the one on one will help with motivation |

Oh I mean language exchange and tutoring apps. I just logged into the one I use most, to check a setting, and got bombarded with messages. Ha. |

Language exchange is just talking. So I had someone bemoan one of the issues on the app. "Man only want flirt". You could correct that, probably. |

It's a hard language to learn to speak. Really hard. Western languages are far more developed linguistically, we literally have a word for everything. The Thai language doesn't. It's tonal and incredibly hard to learn to speak correctly.
It's a lot easier to learn to listen to it and understand it though which is very helpful in all sorts of situations.
My advice is to learn day to day spoken Thai...meeting/greeting/shopping/basic daily tasks etc, and leave it at that.
A vast amount of Thai people do not speak Thai day to day anyway, Isan, Khemer, Lao, and more dialects are far more prevalent once you leave Bangkok. |

"Hi were looking to learn a new language and were looking for thai tutors or any advice
Love this, jumping on board..... (Spanish though)"
Apart from my comment on tones, my comments can be applied to any language. I think the Spanish learning community on Reddit is strong. |

On language learning in general, the US government (I think something to do with the armed forces) has a list of languages and how hard they are to learn for native English speakers. Spanish and Portuguese are among the easiest, and Arabic is among the hardest. For those looking to learn a language without a direct aim, that may factor into your decision making. |
