I viewd a car and decided not to buy it, saying i wanted to have a look at another car.

At this point things got argumentative.

Anyone else had this negative experience? I think I'll stick to trade sellers

I think it's common. It's tough trying to buy and sell private.

He probably had a lot of messers look at his car before you came along.

I would never argue .. I’d just say not for me .. I once was looking at a bike and it was way overpriced by the seller .. wasn’t as described either as it was a grey import .. I looked around it and said to the guy what I thought the value was and a couple of reasons why .. and that it wasn’t for me and just walked away

I did say that but he wouldn't let it drop, asking why etc.. It had faults but didn't mention them, just said i was looking at another and would let him know

Some people are under the impression that you have to buy if you look.

I ask questions on first call re any known defects and service history. I know they can lie on the former, but if it doesn't have a full service history I won't even look at it.

Usually the other way around. I seem to get all the idiots when trying to sell cars.

I have always directed people like that to the main dealer, they have a showroom full of perfect cars, priced accordingly.

Indeed. A lot of people seem to be looking for a flawless car at a bargain basement price. I have had people telling me my 10 year old car with 70k on the clock is rather high !!
