Could you date/marry a vegan/vegetarian?

If you are carnivorous?

Or vice versa. As a vegan vegetarian, can you date/marry a carnivore?

I mean to some, they may be repulsed enough to not go for food together. So I think it’s a valid question.

What are your thoughts?

It could cause issues, if she was a strict vegan cause where I live has ham in the name.

There should be no reason why anyone couldn't. Mutual respect and unforced views will play a big part. I would not change to suit though.

It might be difficult if children came along and one vegan parent wanted to bring up a little one as a vegan. I respect individuals choice to be vegan but not sure it's healthy for a baby

Mr (a livestock farmer) was a Vegetarian when we met and we don’t eat meat everyday so it wouldn’t be too much of a change if he reverted. He has been talking about going vegan but I think he likes cheese too much to go through with it.

I dated/fwb with a semi vegetarian. He didn’t eat red meat. My favourite food is a nice bloody steak so I would try and be good and not eat red meat when with him. The funniest was when we ended up in a steak restaurant in York and he said to the waitress I don’t eat red meat and she looked at him disgusted and went you know it’s a steak restaurant right

Yeah chances are they’d know all the places to go that suits their eating habits, they’d know all the things to cook. A vegan diet is healthy so I’d just eat what they are eating but add a steak to it.

My daughter became a vegetarian at age of 13 and is 35 now. I eat meat and we have never had issues, it just needs some respect. When we went on holiday together it just needed some extra organisation to find vegetarian options - France was a nightmare for many years but is much easier now.

It would only be a problem if one or other did not have respect for the others choice, would you want to be in a relationship with someone who did not have respect for you, regardless of their eating habits.

I agree. I do think that it would be easier for me as a meat eater to get along with a vegetarian although I think that I would be incompatible with a vegon and they with me. I dislike extremism in all of its forms wether it's extreme right or left. Vegans are an extreme form of vegetarians for me. Not going there.

I'm veggie. I've always dated meat eaters and it doesn't bother me, never bothered my partners either. But then I'm pretty easy going about the whole thing... Happy to cook meat and even share the tongues at a BBQ.

The only annoying thing is having to cook separate meals, but it's hardly a big thing.

La la land

It would very much depend on the person. One of my friends is a vegan and she's so easy with it. She doesn't grumble if she can't eat something, she just asks for whatever you have she can eat.

My biggest gripe is with people who presume she's going to be all ranty or try and tell her she's xyz as she's a vegan. We've gotten along nicely for nearly 20 years with her being vegan and I'm a farmer's daughter who loves meat.

"Vegans are an extreme form of vegetarians for me. Not going there. "

Vegan could be considered extreme, but as a vegan I do not consider myself an extremist. The reasons I am vegan are based on animal welfare, environmentalism, and health.

For those in any doubt, being vegan means you do not eat any animals or animal derived-products. So no meat, fish or foul (any living creature) dairy produce, (eggs, milk, cheese etc) and even things like honey. This naturally leads on to avoiding things like leather, and animal products in cleaning products, etc.

Could I date a non-vegan? Yes. I'll respect their views as long as its returned. Although my preference would be a fellow vegan.

It's a lot easier to be a vegan today. Eating out is well supported, and if you are not a masterchef, eating at home is also well supported with vegan meals, and improving all the time.

I had a vegan girlfriend back in 1993. She made me vegan sausage rolls! She was great fun, great in bed, and me eating meat wasn’t an issue at all, even though she was a regular hunt saboteur, and would petition McDonalds with photos of animal cruelty

I'd prefer to date a vegan or vegetarian than a person who does not respect them

And to my knowledge humans are omnivores meaning we can obtain our nutrients from many food types I know of no defacto human carnivores

Lol!!

Realistically nobody should do anything they don't enjoy just to please a partner

Yes I'm vegan, I'm a frigging awesome cook, nobody would miss meat in my house

When i meet my DD he eats vegetarian in restaurants ... Not because i make him, but because he feels more comfortable... He's not died yet What he does on his own time is his own business

Ideally i'd love to be with people who share my outlook and views on life.. But as with all things in life there is usually an element of compromise to be made ... Realistically politics are my non-negotiable (oh and closed minded people!)

That kind of nagging I could handle, actually you wouldn’t need to nag

Couldn’t go out with a woman who won’t put meat in her mouth...

Sorry, I’ll get my coat

I could happily play with either V's! They taste so much better!

Not all are militant! It is pretty straight forward to cook for the both!

As a vegan of many years, I can hand on heart say the hardest thing about being one is dealing with non vegans and their presumptions. My husband is an omnivore, no I won’t buy or cook meat and I won’t offer my opinion unless you ask for it.

I'm vegan and so is my husband. But if was single then no, I wouldn't date or marry a non-vegan.

I have matched on Tinder with a woman who’s a vegetarian, she’s lovely. We share same humour, politics and hobbies, I haven’t yet brought up the fact I am a big meat eater, I mean every meal has to have something that once lived.

I hope it isn’t a big thing but if it’s a choice, the meat wins

I check everything I can, yes. Being vegan is avoiding the harm and exploitation of animals as far as possible and practicable. So that's what I do.

We are now being asked if we can pack in to shippers made with vegan glue. Banana box's are not made with vegan glue. So I guess it's this sort of thing I strugelg to fully comprehend and can you buy a vegan car ?

I dated a vegan and he ended up living with me short term. Meal times were challenging tbh, I found I was becoming vegan also as I was cooking to suit him . I love my meat but saying that I only eat beef and chicken.

Again, "as far as possible and practicable" so no, obviously issues like you suggest don't fall in to that definition.

Its about doing the best you can, not being perfect.

You can't help who you fall for and I'd only say no if she tried to force her beliefs down by throat (not literally) but I'd do that with any beliefs not just vegan vegetarian

There's enough cr.p going on in the world without carrots being one of them

I'm always up for trying new foods and need to lose a few lbs so maybe it's a win win situation

Is it different from being with someone with different political, religious or other views? Or does everyone need to be the same?

"If you are carnivorous?

Or vice versa. As a vegan vegetarian, can you date/marry a carnivore?

I mean to some, they may be repulsed enough to not go for food together. So I think it’s a valid question.

What are your thoughts?

There should be no reason why anyone couldn't. Mutual respect and unforced views will play a big part. I would not change to suit though. "

You compromise with respect.

I was pescatarian over a decade and become 99% vegan few years ago. (1% is I do drink wine time to time) I date/ have sex with meat eaters and I even married one whom he stopped eating meat by himself couple of years ago. I probably won’t marry again tho as life feels much better when I don’t see flesh in the fridge and smell in the house all the time.

"Vegan glue? "

Yet we make a vegan deodorant and they want the box it is shipped in to be made with vegan glue and tape. So now looking at a new supplier for the box just for this job at 7x the cost

I’m vegetarian and although I’m not vegan I do eat a mostly vegan diet as I’m just not keen on most dairy. Many years ago it used to be a real hassle to eat out and my ex would always complain that we couldn’t agree on anywhere to eat but restaurants and pubs have adapted so much that I rarely check the menu anymore before deciding to go somewhere as I know there’s likely to be something on the menu I can have.

That said, I’m probably a bit easier as I don’t mind buying and cooking meat for him I just choose not to eat it myself

"...and can you buy a vegan car? "

Great question! As a vegan I avoid eating animals or products using animal derived ingredients and that’s easy.

Products, like cars, do present issues. However many manufacturers are moving towards offering vegan appropriate interiors for example. Electric cars are popular with environmentally conscious people and many of those are vegan as one aspect of the vegan lifestyle is environmental protection.

I agree and most people are not extremist or following their beliefs religiously but they do as much as they can with their options. I believe it’s more than enough. So the choices goes more environmentally /vegan friendly when possible.
