Frequently lose things in the house, hunt for hours, engage services of Son for assistance. Give up after hours and declare 'its lost and gone forever'.
Wife sweetly smiles, shakes her head muttering 'man look' and reappears 2 minutes later saying 'is this it? ' |

"You don’t have a designated safe place space? Amateur....
I can assure you this item was definitely 100% in a safe place. It’s grown legs and fucked off
Was it the cat?"
If I were to have an animal I can assure a cat would be the very bottom of the list |

If it's a safe place to remember, add it to your phone memory, such as creating a contact listing, then just search your phone contacts for the items, if you don't immediately recall it from your memory. If you actually wrote it down, it would also create a stronger memory imprint, due to it involving more aspects of your brain. Rehearse you remembering it in future, when you may need to find it. Much more robust memory imprints. Throw the paper note away, as you'd just do it for me memorising effect. Or keep them as backup to your phone contact memory. You can always separate them into a different area, if needed for privacy.
I forget a fair few things but using these tools helps a lot |

This particular item was saved in a very similar way. It’s vanished into thin air it’ll show up I’m sure |

This is my hubby a couple of months ago looking for his passport.
I tell him to put it back in the drawer where it lives he never does, so he emptied the car, the suitcases, all coat pockets, the drawers in the bedroom, at work AND the drawer where the passports are kept.
Nothing.
So after me deliberately ignoring his panic as payback for him leaving his shit wherever he likes, I took pity on him.
I open the drawer, moved 1 notepad and took out his passport.
Handed it to him silently and walked off.
