How could a stolen phone show a SIM card had been inserted when it hadn't been knowingly ?

Are you sure the phone hasn't gone onto someone's WiFi? Just needs a connection to the Internet to be located.

It could be helpful to provide more details. Where does this information come from? Is it an exact message, an interpretation etc?

A stolen phone shows someone's SIM card was inserted. The owner of the sim inserted, has no knowledge of touching the stolen phone.

If it was your phone that's been stolen you can have it blocked so it can't be used - or you used t be able to.

That's not the issue. How did a SIM card get registered as being inserted in another phone ?

No sim card is solely linked to a phone. You should've able to out any simple card in any phone.

It sounds like the simple card has been cloned/copied.

With the right 'reading device' - easy. Just a quick Swipe within close range.

The person would need physical access to the SIM card. You would put the SIM card in a SIM card reader, attached to a computer, then use software on the computer to read the information and then be able to copy that information to a new blank SIM card.

In the workplace where it allegedly happened, it doesn't seem possible, that's what is puzzling ?

What message was recieved to make you think a cloned SIM card has been inserted in another phone?

A phone call from police saying this person's SIM had been recorded as inserted into a stolen phone, even though the stolen phone has not been recovered.

Another way of cloning is if the hacker convinces the mobile network operator to switch the phone number to a new SIM card.

Can the person still recieve phone calls/texts on their own phone? If they can then the SIM hasn't been cloned. Have they recieved any odd texts asking them to restart their phone? How do they know it was the actual police phoning them?
