That's not advice, that's a statement
Mine is: the idea of parenting is to enable your children to be independent of you.

"Op, I'm cynical but your boss took the biscuit . That's a very dim view of the average member of society. I assume he included himself in that "
We were working in retail at the time. It was after a particularly nasty customer had off loaded on me for a good 10 minutes. It was strangely comforting! |

This is perfect, I know so many parents that have failed here. Obviously they didnt mean no harm but their kids are fucked without them. |

In that case I a understand exactly where he was coming from and in that context he was right. Our daughter worked in retail for a long time and people could be staggeringly nasty to staff. Currently it's even worse apparently. |

I worked in a call centre helpline and used to get lots of abuse from 'the public' so I can see the POV of that advice. |

The best piece of advice is to walk away from situations and people you don’t want to be involved in, why stay somewhere or with someone that’s making you unhappy, anxious, nervous, whatever, just walk away, take yourself out of the situation, when you realise this life becomes a lot easier, you owe no one anything, not a response, not a reply, not a thing. You don’t owe them Diddly squat.
That’s not advice I’ve been given, just something that took me far too long to work out. |

That's easier said than done. Also the outcome may be much worse than the original situation. |

It really isn’t, that’s what we are conditioned to think. |

My grandfather told me "always invest in a good mattress and a good pair of shoes, because you spend most of your life on your feet or on your back"
Wise man! |
