Am I a total nerd and alone in my appreciation... Or is this one of, if not THE, greatest all-time Sci-fi series?

Flame as appropriate

There is a movie that caused the series. The series tries hard to tell you for a while that you don't need to see the movie first... You don't really need to see it, but it makes life easier.

For a mid-90's production, the effects are 'for the time' almost movie level but the script writing /adaptation is just...wow

You can tell they enjoyed making it

I loved this show growing up, it wasn't the same after they got rid of Jack O'Neil though. I think this is also where I developed a love for the name Samantha too

You literally spelt his name wrong... When he explicitly states multiple times how to spell it when being quoted, because he doesn't want 'the other guy' getting name check credit

In my defence it's been a long time since I've watched the show

It's possible that I saw the movie twice.

It's possible that I then used to watch SG-1 every Sunday.

Possible

Staple viewing in my youth, I loved SG1. I loved the flirting and humour between Jack and Carter, and Teelk was an absolute legend

You can tell they had fun making it. There are moments caught on camera that make the final cut where you can see them 'ad-lib'ing...

It is easily one of the best sci-fi series ever created!!

One of my favourites and I’ve binge watched all 10 season so many times it’s unreal!

I love SG-1, but only up until about when O'Neill left and Teal'c grew hair...

Still madly in love with Carter!

Babylon 5 is a contender for best sci-fi show, though

Stargate Atlantis was not as good but Teyla (Rachel Luttrell) was really hot; and of course Jason Momoa was Ronan Dex in the same series.

Great TV series but it did tail off a bit after Jack left.

Mind you, some decent eye candy.....from the original cast, Amanda Tapping could look pretty fine but I liked Teryl Rothery more. From the later series I have a not-so-soft spot for Claudia Black, but.....

.....Morena Baccarin....

Some serious denim-destroying boing for that gorgeous, gorgeous woman!!

Gate nerds here... When asks if there's gonna be a new series in the franchise, the producers responded with "chevron 5 locked"

Loved the movie and the series. Even Stargate Atlantis and Stargate Universe, that is until it was ended in the weirdest way possible...

For me the best Sci-fi series of all time was Battlestar Galactica (the remake)

But for cultural impact I’d say Star Trek

Taken just as good TV Gate is up there but if you take programs & think of their imagination at the time then Trek will always be king.

We had barely left the planet & had yet to land on the moon!

Although for me The Time Tunnel was just as good a leap of faith into the unknown & I still think more likely to become real before an Enterprise.

I do love watching stargate. And probably an unpopular opinion but I love all 3 of the series.

I'm a 100% a trekkie before anything else though. But I can name episodes by name and season number 2 seconds in. With trek its usually a second
