maybe if you explain the issue, someone might be able to explain. Also, what car is it?

It is quite common for people to remove EGR valves as the can cause issues, although a good clean will usually sort them out for a year or two.

oh I thought it wouldn't pass the mot without the EGR? its 3 years old, no engine management light come on but had a diagnostic saying its EGR fault. So I am assuming it needs a good clean. Just working out whether to get rid of the car or fix it. If there's any diesel specialist mechanics out there, please dm me. thanks

In theory, it shouldn't pass with any environmental systems bypassed, but in practice I've never found anyone that had been failed. The common practice it to remove it, replace it with a blanking plate, then reprogram the ecu to not look for it. Many smaller garages recommend that approach and claim that you will get better performance without it. Personally, I would rather have the engine as designed, and having it cleaned would generally be fairly cheap... usually problems with diesel engines are caused by the "wrong type of driving" diesels are great for long motorway trips, but suffer when used for short trips and start-stop driving.

A egr delete wont fail mot. However the vauxhall diesels breathe very very heavy, therefore blowing alot of oil vapour out which intern blocks the egr. Our most common engine for egr issues is vauxhalls... just stay away theyre awful. How much mileage do you do? As if your doing short miles just dont bother with a diesel theyre very uneconomic to run short miles and problematic.
