I was going to suggest another one which has a slightly misleading title because the gore factor isn't that high.

Oh also Devil! I really enjoyed it although it was panned a bit.

The whole happy ending thing and horror has me a bit stumped though.

I watched Ready or Not recently. It's a bit of a comedy horror but I thought it was pretty good.

Tucker and Dale Vs Evil is also highly underrated and also falls into comedy/horror without being a spoof.

Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy for Sci Fi

For Horror films maybe try an old black and white classic, night of the demon is a great choice with a decent ending. These films required story rather than gore to enthrall their audience
