What does everyone make of it?

I'm torn, there is enough of Star Trek in it to make me enjoy it, but seems as though it's not Star Trek enough.

I liked it a lot. It's Star Trek but for now. It compares well with the other Sci-Fi made now.

There are a lot of Trek fans who just want TNG/DS9/Voy over and over, but sadly they haven't aged too well and doesn't attract new fans

The new Lower Decks is great too

I love it, but if it’s not “trek” for you, try The Orville, it so wants to be TNG it hurts.

I have the entirety of Star Trek on DVD, Discovery is a bit of a disappointment and took me almost the full 1st season to get into it, haven't watched season 2 yet but I'm hoping its going to be better.

I find some of the characters really great and interesting and well acted, the overall story arc seemed unimaginative and poorly thought through. The next series should be interesting, hopefully not a squandered opportunity given it took them two series to earn an unblemished bit of cannon timeline.

I much preferred Picard, it was a deeper story, but again you could pick holes in it if you wished.

The original series, voyager and TNG when watched now don't have the same pizaz as modern telly, but for their time were groundbreaking. For me what makes them special is that every story was carefully crafted and full of sci-fi concepts to explore. Much like reading scifi short stories verses a full novel of series.

Despite being a big Trekkie what I look forward to most now is next series of "The Expanse".

And on the subject of alternatives, watching Babylon 5 or the Battlestar Galactica reboot are both better uses of time than recent entries in Trek cannon.

Babylon 5's been rebooted?

"

Babylon 5's been rebooted?"

Nope just BSG... And technically they never finished B5 the first time around.

I think there would be scope for more stories in that universe (there were spin off TV movies) as it is quite richly imagined. But I can't see the point in a reboot, although happy to be proved wrong given how good BSG reboot was.

Definitely a fan of discovery and can’t wait for the next series.

And a reboot of B5 ? Hell to the no. Follow on or spin offs, fair play to that but B5 doesn’t need a reboot, it was a brilliant exercise in a sci fi novel series and doesn’t warrant changes imho

You got my hopes up then only to be dashed Meh.

I find Michael Burnham an interesting character and the addition of Captain Pike a masterstroke.

I get what you're saying, but I enjoyed it enormously.

The references add to it, if you're a Trekky, but it stands well alone if not.

Can't wait for season 3.

B5 was one of the first to have a multi series plot arc in place from day 1. No problems ret-con'ing in changes to the story arc, everything was in place at the start and rewards a rewatch. Ahead of its time in many ways, and still works today.

Did not like it a first but season two got me hooked on it, can’t wait for season three later to is month, I still hate the Klingons in it though, you thought the TNG ones had trouble talking with the false teeth.

I am looking forward to the Pike spinoff too, have not started lower decks as I have been waiting for a legit way to watch it but the producer says it may be 2022 before we get it

I wanted to like Discovery, and got halfway through season two, but eventually became disenchanted with it and gave up...

....Picard, however, I really liked, and am eagerly looking forward to season two!

Tilly and Saru for me, both more interesting than they first appeared.

Disappointed by how 1 dimensional and undeveloped some of the supporting cast are (bridge crew in particular), especially when some episodes expected us to care about them without introducing them.

Pike also good, I think he gets his own spin-off show with the rather buxom number 1 to keep him company!

Reading everything that everyone has put is amazing, I never knew there were so many trek fans on the site. Besides the few of us mentioned in the Sun a few years back for apparently hosting an orgy at a convention, yes I was mentioned by name haha.

For me having watched every series available right now over and over, I'd say that The Next Generation is definitely my favourite series. I felt the storylines were more in depth and original. But I do love every other series as well, watched the season finale of lower decks and have to say even though it's not my typical trek, it's still a delight to watch.

Certainly cant wait till friday to see the first episode of Discoverys Third Season.

I know filming for the Pike series starts sometime soon with an air date late 2021 early 2022. And of course we have second season of Picard in production as well.

I like Discovery & Picard. I am mainly looking forward to season 5 of The Expanse, though I am nervous of the likely fallout over that actions of the actor that plays Alex Kamal (the pilot).

For the trek fans though. Had you heard the idea the the Klingon equivalent of BDSM would be cuddling & gentle sex?

I think Star Trek Discovery is ace, I love all the Star Trek series though, original, TNG, DS9, Voyager, Enterprise.

I think it is very similar to Enterprise in format and is Trek for the modern era.

Also binge watching Battlestar Galactica at the moment, brilliant!

Anyone remember Farsacape?

Being a big Star Trek nerd I wanted so badly to like it. But I find it so hard to like it.

I hate most of the characters.

The first season was pretty boring, but the second half picked up so I watched season 2. I really enjoyed pike but that was about it.

I'll probably still keep tuning in hoping to like it.

Same here. I think if do the same thing again and again it just loses itself, like voyager.

A show in a new section of space, lost, but still goes to earth and has the borg in it.

I like both discovery and Picard

Granted it was a little slow but it really puts a new slant on things and its unpredictable as to where its going which isn't a bad thnig with a tv show these days.

Terrible.

Some egotistical self centered weridos trip through space.

I agree it is made.for the current generation. The me, me, me, generation. The ones that think personal gains they agree with are better than the group progressing, or the other side getting personal gains.

Dipping into the old American thropes of showing soldiers and police torturing bad guys to normalize it so when black sit CIA torture camps are found everyone thinks it's just what the good guy has to do sometimes.

That star trek has fallen into this thrope is sad.

Truly gutted this got pulled specially as I had invested my time in this. Companies now are getting so greedy and for us film/tv fans it’s ruin the whole experience of telly. From what I’m hearing the new season of enterprise is good. Give it time and all Star Trek programmes and films will be taking away and only streamed on paramount

I'm loving the new season of Disco so far.

Glad they came to an arrangement with Pluto TV so we can watch it for free at the same time as the US, saves me having to avoid Twitter for the best few months.
