Think its just a habbit from years ago.. I am an alright girl, not a stunner but not ugly either..

Id see it as one of those lines to either break the ice and hopefully they'd see humour in it,, or it would horrify them if they took it seriously in which case they'd not be for me

Starting any relationship by belittling yourself in someone else’s eyes is never a good start. By starting with that statement, specifically the “unlucky night” part you’re actively making yourself lesser.

Self-deprecation can be charming in the right moment, but not as an opening line. Respect yourself more than that.

I've been a few times and met some lovely people there. It was always good fun. Clearly as am still single nothing came of it though. Fab speed dating in the future would be great though!

I have never done it, but always thought it would be a fun evening. I enjoy meeting new people & having only a few minutes of someones time to make an impact seems like a fun challenge. It would be interested to see if I could get a good idea about a person in such a short space of time too!

After seeing this thread I have just talked about it with my daughter who is seeking a new man in her life and we have just booked her on to a speed dating event next Wednesday. Its a virtual event and is run in the same way as normal events. Fingers crossed for her
