I used to support a young man who had an African grey parrot, which swore. A lot. I didn't find it amusing, in the end, the poor bird had to get rehomed.

African Greys are the most intelligent of the parrots, they have the mental capacity of a 5 yr old child, the one I had never swore, but then they will only repeat what they hear, or answer with the response they’ve been taught. So shame on the owners for teaching the bird to swear.

They end up in the zoos because people don’t do their research before buying one as a pet, then the new owners realise how much hard work they are, care they need, an they then require rehomibg as they are deemed hard work. Sad but true.

There are also the cases where the owners cannot keep them for legitimate reasons, these too end up getting passed on.

They are indeed, but very hard work, on the flip side so rewarding.

Mine used to mimic the house phone, the he’d say hello? Pause a few seconds before saying Uh huh, yep, ok, byeeee.

This was just one of his many talents.

I do miss him.

Do you think it's swearing because it's been nailed to the perch... Or was that a Norwegian Blue?

Poor monkey. It shouldn't be allowed to keep them in houses.

They’re like Velociraptors with wings when they take a dislike to you, our grey (Oscar) was bonded to my ex, tho he’d let me handle him so always considered myself fortunate, til he wanted to show me how sharp his beak was

The ones you are talking about were re-homed at the zoo, because their previous owners couldn't look after them.

Luckily it's quite rare to see parrots for sale now, as they aren't 'fashionable'.

Yep, an he was fully flighted, when we were in the house he was out of his cage, free roam and in summer in the outdoor aviary, you’ve never seen a man and two golden retrievers so afraid of something so small when he was on one!!!!

I know of someone that had one and they went out shopping for the day and forgot to put it back in it’s cage. They got home to a puddle of pee their staffs had done from the bird bullying it and then they walked in it went ‘ooohhhhhh, shhhiitttttt’ got in its cage and pretended to be asleep by making snoring noises lol
