I’m staying Waltham Abbey on Thursday and a business meeting on Friday, any ideas what I should do Thursday on the area or does anyone want a social?

There’s a good pub called the Volunteer. If you’re staying at the Marriott there’s nothing walkable though.

There and to the left a bit

You could always get a bus down to Waltham Cross...that's a real bundle of laughs

Seriously OP there's not a great deal round there worth much, I'd just hit the hotel bar

Essex

It’s only a short Uber to Loughton. Then you’re in TOWIE country where you can find a few posh pubs ....or head up the hills to the Carpenters, Foresters or The Vic for the more “off road” style pubs.

Heading a little further to Epping, Theydon Bois, Chigwell or Woodford for more “class” but not much more actual variety.

As mentioned above, The Marriott may be your best bet for finding someone with a similar mindset though.
