I think not picking him is that right decision, but I Have to agree that he comes across as a decent bloke but that could just be media savvy, what I will say is out of all of England's supposed golden generation of footballers he was the only one that ever looked like he actually wanted to play for England and not just taking the money |

"Personally, I don't see why professionals of any sport are allowed in an amateur competition. "
the olympics havnt been an anatuer competition since 1988.
virtually all olympians are professionals except in some of the minority sports.. |

if he were playing well, week in week out, then fine, take him, but to take him because he is a great ambassador, or would get viewing figures up, then htere are other ways to do it.
take bobby charlton to play.
sure the morbid of us would tune in to watch that, and he has been a great ambassador for english football
hell, if we are taking players that WANT to go, instead of players that can actually help us win, i would have called john barnes, matt letissier and ian rush up.
what abotu robbie fowler?
he still plays football, just not as high profile (does he not play in the Thailand pancake sunday 2nd XI robinson crusoe league or summat?????)
pearce has done right.
BUT i would have liked it IF the players chosen were ones that were not anywhere near their national teams, like the player posted about above.
the ones that havent had a chance to play for england/ireland/wales/scotland.
to me that would be better and more in keeping with an olympic ethic, even if the other nations would not agree. |

He was a great player in his day, and for my money he'd never have left United if it wasnt for his missus pulling the strings, once she fully took charge.

He simply wasn't as good as the other 3 and I am sure deep down he would agree. Going after the big pay packet in America where football is less competitive was more of a priority for him so I don't really think he can complain at not being picked. |
