blocked sinuses...

Jump to: Newest in thread

By (user no longer on site) OP     over a year ago

today and yesterday I've had horrible pressure behind my eyes and nose and ears.

I'm pretty sure its blocked sinuses as it helps a little when I steam.

Does anyone have any brilliant tips for relieving this?

There are pressure points that you can press to help, you put your thumb on the soft spot behind the ear and then your fingers on where the sinus openings are on your face.

It’s hard to explain in writing, I will come round or I am sure there are videos on the inter web

You shoot water up your nose. It clears the sinuses. It feels a bit like drowning but it relieves the pressure for awhile. I've heard them sold as Neti pots

It has worked for me before but finding the exact spot is tricky. The sinuforce nasal spray has helped as well.

Lorna it's not that bad.

Imagine empty small shampoo bottle with a hole on the top. You put it near your nostril, bend over the sink which means gravity helps it come out other side. I use one which comes with sachets of mix of bicarbonate soda and salt. You mix it in with a warm water. Both help to fight with congestion. It might be bit gross but also very satisfying when you dont feel like your nose and forehead are about to explode. Worth it. Best results for me. I have to repeat it every few hours depending on severity of infection, but it makes a big difference. Just look for some nasal rinse kits.

Forgot to add you gently squeeze the bottle and it goes up your nostril. Warmth and pressure aid the process

Ask for pseudoephedrine. That's the good stuff but it's an ingredient in drugs so it's not as easy to get hold of as it was

The Town by The Cross

Nasal passages aren't usually blocked as such, they are generally swollen.

If you use Sudafed in any form then the nose can be blown quite easily.

for cheek and head cavities use inhalers to loosen mucus and it will emit through the nose or down the throat.

Take painkillers, drink water, sleep.

Just snort some slightly warm salt water up each nostril- if you use cold it will make your headache worse. If it doesn’t go by tomorrow morning consult a chemist as you may have an infection

I have suffered acute sinusitis for years and the only thing that works is massage my sinuses if it's only minor but if it's severe when I can't concentrate and feel exhausted I do a week long course of ibuprofen it reduces the inflammation and let's my body cure the infection. Never take Sudafed or any of them type of things as they reduce the blood vessels in your nose giving you relief but then as soon as you stop going them the blood vessels go huge and block it back up.

Have you ever tried FLIXONASE it is what I'm using now got it on prescription but i think you can get it over the counter. but a good stemmer that takes oil is wonderful quick relief.
