I’m a trail runner, nothing I like better than running in the mountains away from people and society and immersing myself in nature, far from the bullshit that we’ve invented for ourselves. |

"Metalhead.

So far, i think you're the first who understands the concept of a subculture. "
A cultural group within a larger culture, often having beliefs or interests at variance with those of the larger culture, think I answer the question. |

I don’t think you get to decide what qualifies as the only acceptable answers for what a sub culture is! |

"I just did a 'What subculture am I?' quiz. Apparantly I'm punk
I’m a goth in one quiz and a scene in another... don’t really think I conform to either of those. I’m just unique. "
In another one I'm a hipster (I might have some traits ) |

"Outdoor adventure enthusiast "
How would you be recognised when out and about? For instance, if i saw a Goth in Tesco id know. However im not sure id know an "outdoor adventure enthusiast" if I saw one. So what visual tells do you have to let the casual observer know which subculture you're a member of? |

A sub culture usually has a particular style of clothing, activity and/or music associated with it.
Have you seen the number of outdoor gear shops there are? |

I also notice how many "dress up " in their gear to go to the shop
Its indeed a sub culture of mainstream and absolutely divided into many niche sub sub cultures
I absolutely disagree though that to be a sub culture one needs to be overt about it or advertise it
I'm part of both kite surf and climbing sub culture those who partake would recognise another
I'm part of health and wellbeing sub culture but I prefer to cover up bit can spot others even when they are not overt

More of lifestyle than hobby
Wetsuits are not waterproof
I may also be a member of the subculture that does not need to conform to a stereotype to be part of an individual group of humans |

Lol, someone is a breakfast club fan. Out of those above I would be a combination of brain, basket case and criminal.
As for subculture.
Aging rocker.

Traveller.
Adrenaline junkie.

I like to dress up in a black morph suit, swim around under the water in pools making loud pinging noises, and putting my "periscope" above the water line That's what you mean right? |

I think that just shows you don't understand subculture. Gamers and Nerds are pretty mainstream. The answers you've dismissed as not being subculture are the ones that truly are cultures but hidden away and not known about.
Take runners, we have our clubs, rules, meets, magazines, specialist clothing, forums, debates etc, we even nod to each other like bikers do - all appearing to the outside world as 'just a hobby'
I'm a climber/mountaineer and a runner.

I'd tell. Just like the Goth it would be the choice of clothing. I'd even be able to tell if he was a serious outdoor enthusiast or just someone who likes the fashion and wants to be seen that way. Your ignorance of a culture doesn't mean it doesn't exist. |

Do you identify as a "Karen"?"
I was going to ignore this as it really isn't worth it but just wanted to make sure you're aware that it's the male half of the coupe commenting here (thus the wrong sex for a Karen) and would ask that you don't throw insults around on the forums, its says a lot more about you than those who the comments are aimed at ... |
