"Yep, they're a joke, usually because of the attendees..... "
The principle is sound though. Most people are defensive when they start (as if it was not their foot on the accelerator) but end up recognising aspects of their behaviour. More productive than points at least.... |

Yea, you learn some roads are higher limit than you think, but one speeding offence can lead to a 12 point ban aswell... ie do 40 in a 30 constant, but pass 4 cameras youll get done for all 4. |

"For speeding? Yes.
My mum had an online one during lockdown too.
Is it hard to do online? I heard it can take hours. "
Not too bad, a bit of a wait as they have to go around those attending and take details before the “room” opens, but was ok. Sounded better than my in person course to be honest. |

My father was due to do one after doing 34 in a 30 zone.. But now they want him to do it online because of covid and he doesn't even know how to turn a computer on.
So I called them and they advised me to ring the camera unit people but their phones lines have been down for the last two days.

That sounds a bit harsh, I thought the tolerance for speeding was 10% + 2mph? |

Has he had an email with the link sent through? They might have email contact details on there |

Apparently not. I could be wrong but I'm sure it was 34. |

From Google:
A National Police Chiefs' Council (NPCC) spokesperson said in relation to the allowance: “The 10 per cent rule is allowed in guidance but it is not part of legislation. “It is used as a rule of thumb for enforcement – 10 per cent over the speed limit plus 2mph. |

When is he due to take it?
Ring the folk you rang originally and tell them you’ve tried ringing but can’t get through. You’re getting anxious about it blah blah blah and what do they suggest. Ask if there is an email you can use (which you can use to contact on his behalf). |

Sometime this month I'm not sure exactly. It was arranged for him to do a sit down course but they called me to say that because of covid he couldn't do it.
I have spoke with them a couple of times and they advised me to call the camera crew and see what they can suggest.
I guess they will advice to take the points or do it online. I facking hate doing things online. Just as I was starting to get back into work I got to take time off for this |

Cameras are set at 10+2 and dome counties +3 but i believe other methods of catching you differ. Ie average cams, and being tailed |

Mr did one online a month ago, done over zoom shorter than in a classroom and really easy, just not allowed anyone else in the room when you do it, if you do lose internet connection you only get one more chance so try not too x |

"He could just take the points. Or can you not help him arrange the time and then help him ‘attend’ on the day"
They're not doing sit down courses anymore.. I'll see how he copes with the online thing. He doesn't want to take the points because the last time I took 3 points the price of my insurance increased by around five hundred and fifty pounds which we both thought was ridiculous for a first time offence and that was only for a bald tyre. |

"
Not sure I agree with the potential oxymoron
Only and bald tyre
Rather a dangerous condition with potential tragic consequences
And its pre meditated or at least very very negligent
A tyre dont go bald over night
I'd have given 6 and told your insurer xxxx |

No actually
I can understand a one off plausiblely safe speed indescression
However a bald tyre is potentially lethal for the entirety of the journey and has been for time long enough
It's not an oh whoops moment a split second mistake it's a deliberate go out with car without checking its essentials or worse checking the essentials and disregarding
I'd suggest statistically your insurance should put the price up what else might you neglect xxx |

It was the way the man in the garage did my wheel joints or whatever you call them. They were out of line which caused the tyre to wear out very quickly.. but yes I should of spotted that before. I still think the price increase was a bit much though considering I've never had any previous motoring convictions. |

Ok to be fair I say as long as you now realise it's
NOT ONLY a bald tyre
And it improves your awareness

Far as I can remember my insurer didn't ask what I had the 3 points for. They just upped the price when I told them I had 3 points. |
