Commonwealth of Independent States. At least it did in the early 90s when I was last relevant.

Construction Industry Scheme, where a contractor can deduct from payment to a subcontractor to hand on to the government.

As in Transgender is someone who comfortable with not being defined as any particular group. Then a Cisgender is someone who is comfortable with having a label of a particular group. (My understanding usually wrong )

My understanding of CIS is you identify with your birth sex. I’m probably wrong

Not really. It’s just the opposite of transgender. Don’t think it’s anything to do with being comfortable in a particular group. It’s a term used for someone who’s identity is the same as their birth sex.

on the same side as

The prefix “cis” means “on the same side as.” So while people who are transgender move “across” genders, people who are cisgender remain on the same side of the gender they were initially identified as at birth.

London

Cis doesn't need to be capitalised.

It's just Latin, meaning 'on this side', whereas 'trans' means 'on the other side'.

There's no more need to make a fuss about being called it than there is being called heterosexual.

Occasionally, for some people, the abbreviation "cishet" comes out.

Because labels can help people understand themselves, find others like them, and find appropriate help if required.

Are you sure it’s fried and put on there? A florentine pizza will have the raw egg cooked on top and is delightful.

When I lived in Sweden they used to put banana on a pizza. Like we would pineapple. At the time I was thinking that’s disgusting but now decades later I’m thinking actually that could work.

All top chefs know that a fried egg improves any dish. A bit like melted cheese.

Yes! And be aware of other people's shared experiences so we meet people more where they are.

Labels are not boxes, they're springboards getting you closer to where you need to be.

Spot on. It's a prefix that has been in general usage in sciences for at least a century. The application to gender identity is relatively new, probably no more than 30 years. Cisgender is to transgender the same as heterosexual is to homosexual.

Cisgender isn't any sort of insult, it's just a statement of fact, and only needs using when there is any distinction needed to be made. Some people say "I'm not cisgender, I'm just normal" and moan that we trans are "looking for an excuse to be offended". Try putting it into the framework of other binary categories applied to people...

"I'm not homosexual, I'm normal".

"I'm not crippled, I'm normal".

"I'm not black, I'm normal".

"I'm not Catholic, I'm normal".

"I'm not a swinger, I'm normal".

"I'm not vegetarian, I'm normal".
