Hi, I’m having a photoshoot done by hobbyist (not amateur but certainly not pro either) on Thursday, so it’s not a disaster and to help build confidence I’m looking for advice from people that are either photographers, or people who have had pictures taken before who could advise on good poses etc to have taken.

Use your own memory card if you don't you never know what pictures of you are uploaded where and when. Once they are on the net they are there forever this could include full frontal with face so take care.

Google 'boudoir photo shoot' on an images search, there's literally hundreds. Thats what we did last year as we were stuck for ideas too x

Have a look on women's profiles on here and think about which photos you like and why. Might give you some ideas. Most of all - have fun and enjoy the day. Then the photos will just be a bonus to a nice afternoon

"Thanks will have a look. "

If it were me, I'd want no filters etc as natural as possible.

If people don't like you for what you look like sod 'em

Yes for getting memory card too!

The pictures were going to get edited afterwards, thinking on what’s been said, might be best if I just supply the memory card and take it when finished.

What type of shoot is it for? What type of portfolio are you tryimg to put together?

Not a portfolio as such just something I’m exploring for me I guess.

Kind of an erotic looking photoshoot with what I’ve bought to wear.

If you've got a "semi-pro" then the best thing you can do is to come in on the day with lots of examples of what you want so they know what to go for.

Also: be realistic about what you can achieve. This has nothing to do with how you look, but how good you are at posing - models spend months and years practising how to pose well and get what they want across on film. If you don't have that experience then the best way to start is to practice! (And there's lots of tips online for posing and modelling).

But respect the art and hard work that goes into the modelling itself - and try a few selfies and poses in advance so you have some ideas of how you'll pull it off on the day.

(And have fun!)

So its an erotic shoot.

I cant advice as have no experience. Sounds like you got it in the bag unless people advice on erotic photos.

Only have photos taken that you feel comfortable with, don't allow yourself to be pressured into anything more.

As for poses, some suggestions

Lay on the bed, head over the end, with the shot being taken almost at the same level as your head, look into the camera, have a few shots taken at slightly different angles with your body in slightly different position, eg feet down, knees up legs spread.

Wearing chosen lingerie, if you have a tall mirror, shots of you checking yourself out in different, yet natural poses (as if cameraman wasn't there)

Careful with hand positioning they can often look random, think about where your looking and what your portraying, Black + white, nothing too neat. Small things but they can and have made or broke a shoot.

Practice your poses beforehans in a mirror so you know how they'll look. You can always look for inspiration on Google if you aren't sure which poses to use.

If your photographer has done this before, they'll most likely offer you done direction too, but go with an idea of what you want to achieve.

Most of all, relax and have fun! It'll show in final image.

Just be yourself, once you relax go with what feels right, a good photographer will help you into poses and what works for you. Most important is to be at ease with yourself and feel sexy...damn own the pictures and flaunt it! Have fun with it...that’s what comes out in the pics.

Photographer here, and I've done everything from boudoir through to hard core porn.

The report between the model and photographer is key. Without sounding like Swiss Tony, getting great results is like making love to a beautiful woman... actually, it can be an incredibly intimate a very personal experience, so how comfortable you feel with the photographer is very important.

Posing and lighting are incredibly important. I'm just going to assume that your photographer friend knows how to guide and direct you. What poses work with one person will not work for another.

Do not try and go for a look that is not commensurate with your own being. Be yourself, and that will produce a greater result than anything contrived.

Smile... even if your face is not in the shot. A smile relaxes you, and that shows all over your body.

Communicate with your photographer. Discuss in advance what you each want to achieve, and be realistic in what can be achieved in the space and time available.

Relax, don't rush it. You can get the best results at the end of the day, when the tension has left the room.

From a photographer PoV.

Be very clear on your boundaries, and how far you want the shoot to go. Don't leave it "we'll see on the day", decide a limit and stick to it be it topless, full art nude or open leg. If that limit is crossed at any point end the shoot immediately. Ask for privacy when getting changed, and a quick check to make sure the cameras not pointing your way is always a good idea.

Understand this is going to be a little strange. Don't read too much into their facial expressions, he may look at an image after he's taken it and not like the lighting or the composition, but you're perfect. Communication is key. Ask if you can see a preview of they're obviously pleased with a shot. Get involved.

Don't be afraid to suggest ideas. Sometimes we all get a little fogged up on the inspiration department, and they might appreciate a new direction.

If you're doing topless don't wear a tight fitting bra. Leaves red marks which won't look good later.

Don't forget to eat before you go. Feeling comfortable is much more important and will show in your face and body (agree with the above tip about smiling!)

And most importantly - STAY SAFE. Make sure someone knows where you're going and when you'll be finished, call them when you're done. If you're really unsure take bottled water with you and refuse any drinks or food.

Any photographer worth their salt will have no problems with any of this. If you're unsure walk away, I'm sure one of the thousands of Fab photographers will do some for you!

Absolutely agree with all of this. It is very important to know what the limits are and agree them before hand. Do not allow yourself to be coerced into going further than you intend.

Changing in a separate room, behind a screen, or without the photographer present shouldn't even have to be requested.

For the point of a balanced debate, the photographer may not be male. Women can do this kind of stuff too, and I know a lot of women would feel more comfortable in a woman's presence, and with a womans eye.

Thanks for the above advice, it’s now happening on Tuesday am. I’ve got a memory card that will fit the camera being used, I was shocked how much that was!

Yes unless your not too bothered as too where they end up. I'd let them know before hand too so everyone knows and no surprises on the day.

Modelling 101, listen to the photographer, they will direct the action, not you. If they don't know how to do that make your body stand at an angle to the camera and make a 'Z' shape with your hips and arms (see my profile pics) and above all else smile and look like you are having fun.

Also worth noting - outside pics are useless in the autumn (long shadows) always have the brightest light in front of you and over the photographer's left shoulder, never take pics from below neck height (unless you want to look 75) and do not relax until they tell you they have finished shooting. Don't ask to see pics every two minutes, trust them and if they are shit just kill them (kidding).

I am a total amateur with 40 yrs practice and getting better. (Tasmin Bailey) duh!

I hate to say this but I break everything mentioned here and encourage you to do the same.

Autumn is an amazing time of year for outdoor portraits. The colours of fallen leaves look amazing and the sun can be fantastic. Learn about the golden hour, and use it.

Brightest light over the photographer's left shoulder? WTAF? Trust the photographer to light you how they want. They may want you silhouetted, or dramatically shadowed. Yes there is key and fill lighting, but we can put it wherever we want thank you. Facing the light is more important, unless you're told otherwise.

Pics from below neck height can add a lot of drama, especially if you want a dominating pose. Learn to thrust your chin out first before looking down to save any double chins.

Don't relax? Yes modelling can be tiring but you should feel relaxed in yourself or it will show through. Good posture is essential but you can be relaxed with it. I'd rather have a happy, smiling model with a glint in her eye than the perfect body line and a face that is pleading me to stop.

Not asking to see every 2 minutes is fair, but do be involved with the process. You may see something wrong that the photographer misses, and they'll thank you for it.

Sorry if your post was a run down of what works for you, but labelling it as a "101" might mean others take it as the Bible of photoshoots and think that those of us who don't follow them are rubbish photographers, we just like to take different photographs to you. And that difference is what makes the world awesome.
