Without dementia then yes why not
With demetia it would depend of the level of dementia and whether or not the person has the mental capacity to make decisions for themselves,if not then the question of consent and ability to consent would raise a fair few concerns |

"If its with their partner then yes. If not then no. Wpuld you really want your family member having sex with someone they don't know"
Why not? we do, and enjoy it... many on here have meet age up to 99 |

I should have said if they have dementia then no. I worl in care and have no issue with them having sex unless they have dementia. |

People in care homes have no human rights that the rest of us take for granted.
Google it if you dont believe that the Human Rights Act doesnt apply to them.
We treat our elderly appallingly |

wish i'd have heard the article
in my care home couples privacy is respected -- im sure they could have sex if they wanted to
but a lot of my lovely clients are frail, ill, very old, widowed an have never shown interest in wanting to indulge

"Allowed? of course they bleedin' should...maybe not in the lounge though
Im wondering what goes through peoples mind when they post a thread like this,
Everyones allowed to do what they want - hopefully within the law. "
I would imagine what goes through peoples minds when they post a thread like this is 'let's have a discussion on a current issue which is being reported on the news instead of talking about sex all the time'.
What's wrong with that? |

oh dear sounds like youve had a bad experience --- there are some nice places where people are respected cared for and in some cases loved
it the system that lets them down -- private sector health care disgruntled low paid workers |

I think older people arte entitled to a sex life in their own home, and a care home is exactly that. Those who are able to make the decision to be involved in that type of relationship of course.
Questions should be raised about those folk who are suffering with dementia to ensure they are not being coerced into something they do not wish to happen.
What about group sex between elderly people not suffering from dementia in care homes? |

a care home, sheltered housing etc are all peoples homes wether they have extra care or not, therefore they are entitled to do just what they want, when they want, the only time that decision should be taken away from them is when they do not have the mental capacity to make there own decisions or, it is detrimental to their health, |

Think about it, dementia is often thought if as a second childhood and you try to avoid letting kids shag eachother so it follows that it's prob a really bad idea to let those who aren't playing with a full deck to mix it up.
Grim thread |

I don't think sex will be on the minds of many old folk in care, but if it is and they are compus mentus then they should be left to get on with it in the privacy of their rooms. |

still sex related, my idea of a forum is to contribute to the discussion but alas, as usual it gets over analysed twisted and spat out again.
dont think i'll be wasting any more time here cos i really dont need anyones negative vibe for a while.

I haven't twisted anything, I merely asked you what was wrong with the OP starting this thread?
For someone not interested in it and having a flounce stating you won't post again, you must be interested in it as you've posted twice since. And so you should if you want to contribute. Its a good thread, so good job the OP started it wasn't it |

no one is flouncing love. i added an opinion and then added something else to it within a few seconds.
also the forums are quite addictive and its such a shame that everthing that anyone says is received with such spite cos its never intended that way. certainly not from me. the subject matter - well its really obvious to me that you dont work in care sector.
im really p*ssed at life in general at the mo and some idiotic comments are sooooooooooooooo irritating. perhaps they are trying to be funny - ha ha.
and its just reinforced what i said - negative vibe, arguementative, tit for tat etc, surely lifes too short and you are better that that.
who said anything about its wrong to start this thread, i actually said what goes through peoples minds...................
but no doubt i'll get a bite from this too, cos thats what some people are here for. |

but no ones got much to say about it.
a couple i knew in the nursing home met there and became engaged. they had a party and they had alone together.
they were so in love.
the wedding was planned - even down to the banns being read.
the lady sadly died and the husband to be is still going strong.
im happy that they had a relationship.

thank you x im glad that we've got back to the subject x much more interesting than the catfight going on.
i visit many nursing homes in my job. and this was a couple i met x i was heartbroken when i found out she had died and i still think about them x and visit the guy.
some of the homes are like wherehousing, people have the basics but nothing more.
and then theres homes that go the extra mile........... and enable relationships and normanl stuff to go on x
but given the choice im sure theyd all rather be in there own homes and well. |
