The football fans amongst us are all disappointed but they are currently the best we have and worked their socks off. We agree though we're poor at keeping the ball and unlocking teams. Our strengths lie elsehwere, defending, sometimes set pieces, the odd counter. We'd have been anhiliated by the box heads anyhow |

this is typical of the english game, we are 20-30 yrs behind technically football wise, the FA are doing a shake up at grass roots level U7,sU8,s playing 5 aside non competative football
mini tournaments and round robins no league tables, U9,and 10,s 7aside football u11,s will be 9aside football that will encourage more time on the ball more skills and better possesion of the ball so hopefully in about 10 yrs these kids will grow up to be better footballers, the whole coaching system needs a upgrade aswell, its too hard for volunteers to move up the coaching ladder, ie time of work limited time for training etc etc till all these issue,s are resolved we will just have to put up with boring english players and our style, ive been saying we dont have world class players for years and all i got was what about lmaps gerrard and rooney well havnt the last ten years answered that question they arent world class what makes them look good is the foriegn players they play along side with weeek in week out, we are lucky if we are a top 7-8 european side never mind world side |

Fifa have England ranked at No.6 in the world rankings so that blows your theory clean out of the water. The problem with England is confidence. For too long the players have got used to being beaten and I'm 99% sure that whatever they read in the papers this morning they were expecting it. There is no belief in the side, they may have said they had it but it showed on the pitch that it was nothing more than soundbites. They need to get out there against a top team and show them who's boss, and take the game to them instead of, as last night, allowing the other team to take a walk in the park through our midfield like they weren't even there.

The Fifa rankings mean nothing. They have Italy at 12th. We are also ahead of the likes of France, Russia, Portugal, Croatia, Argentina, Chile and Mexico. |

Perhaps you need to go and view fifa's site and see how the rankings are calculated. So many points for a win, draw etc. It restarts after each world cup. If you say it means nothing then please provide conclusive proof that the rankings are based on whatever you think they're based on. England qualified for the Euros with a good string of results and that pushed them up the rankings. Portugal will go up too as they are semi-finalists, even further if they beat Spain and go on to the final. |

Perhaps you need to revisit how the rankings are calculated and understand the obvious flaws. USA being ranked 4th in the world at one stage, Israel 15th. Last night was all the proof you need the rankings are a poor indicator of how good a team actually are. England 6th, Italy 12th...yet we were embarrassed for 120 minutes.

the emphasis for too long has been on speed!,coaches beemn looking at young players (inc under 7-8-9 years kids) have been looking for fast players for the academies instead of skilled on the ball players!,the skill players get fed up og being overlooked and turn to other sports, the fast players find out eventually that speed is all they have got unfortunatly!.
they should be playing on under sized pitches with emphasis on learning skills not running 100 yards to cross the ball!,barcelona teach on small pitches the value of ball control, how to feel comfortable on the ball & to look up and find opponents!.
it seems to pay dividends for them & for spain!. |
