A comment on another thread made me chuckle.

In a world where yiu can literally find information and guidance on how to do anything, why, oh why do folk log into Fab for guidance?

I'm not suggesting the people of fab have nothing of value to add, its just a rather odd choice?

I think it's based on a sense of community. We're all here on the same sight, so discovering other views and opinions when there's one main common interest (Fab) can be eye opening!

I dont do that I think.. not that I'm aware of. But generally I dont take advice easily so I don't tend to seek it most of the time.

I get this all the time with family and others asking me stuff and I just think Google (other search engines are available) it.

I think some people are uncomfortable with just going to a mobile phone and looking things up. And when I've watched people search they just can't quite get it right (no Google Fu).

And people just like the personal human touch or reccomendations from real people and not an algorithm. If I'm asked something and I don't know I just look it up on the web - like a proxy Google.

I still like to use a dictionary to look up a word rather than the web.

So your saying, for example only theres more reliable info on say plumbing, on the internet, with step by step how to in pics and videos, then possibly fab? Crazy talk surely

Depends on who you ask I guess. There are some on here I know have skills or knowledge I don't have. So have asked their opinions though I doubt I'd ask the fora

I get this at work a lot too.

People would rather ring up to ask something that they could find the answer to on Google.

Ask a question on Google and you get a million generic answers that all basically say the same thing.

Ask a question on here and you get a personalised response from a 'Fab friend' with a (nick)name and a face (or other body part), a real person who you've seen around the forums and become to know and somewhat trust, even if you don't actually know them or even spoken to them, you know its a real person with real life experiences, so they must know what they're talking about... right?!

Many men don't even search the Fab forum for advice, let alone the whole Internet. For some it's as daunting as creating a decent profile and speaking to women respectfully. So we get the same questions and answers again and again.

Sometimes the answers come from those who don't know them I guess. I learn a lot by watching fabbers, it's great!

I wouldn't ask for advice here in a direct question mind, maybe an indirect one....

I think it's just the interaction people like. It's nicer having a chat and some back and forth, than just reading generic info online.

Sometimes, if it’s genuine and too complex for google I don’t mind, but most of the time it pisses me off. Go and fucking google or look on the internet instead of asking me

I think it depends what the question is. If I wanted to know what tools I need to make a dovetail joint I can imagine there would be better places to look. If I want to know if I should invest my money in The Cowgirl Premium Remote and App Controlled Riding Sex Machine from Lovehoney I would probably ask here.

"Social interaction "

And thats probably the crux of it I guess.

On reflection this might be a rather clumsy thread on my behalf and there are people just looking for interaction, perhaps asking a general question being the best way to instigate it.

Information everywhere is almost as much of a problem as lack of.

The quality of answer you are seeking usually isn't in-depth with information everywhere. To top it off 90% of information stray you off-topic. Remember they are doing it for the sake of SEO or sell funnel.

10 ways to ....

The #1

How many hours of quality ....

Are you paying ...

The Right Way...

Which brings about fake news, journalists have to write something and apologize later.

Asking a question on Forum/Fab very likely people aren't trying to sell you something and build a shared bond. We take advise and value the opinions of those we can see and interact with. The reason why an author put their face on internet articles.

There and to the left a bit

There *are* times that I do wonder at some of the questions asked on here and then look at the age of the poster and wonder some more at how they got to that age without knowing

But then sometimes the wealth of experience available here can make this a more valuable resource than somewhere like Google where you may get millions of answers and still be as bamboozled.

BDSM threads are a good example - the kind of first hand knowledge coming from a place of experience just can't be found from a quick Google - not without delving deeper anyway

I think google is filtered, some of the information you actually do find can be watered down or not what you are looking for. Plus actually having a human opinion on something rather than a search result is definitely more interesting.
