Today will be spent looking forward to the game having been alerted that the Paul Weller gig is cancelled.
However, the law states clearly that there will be no consumption of the likes of :
Peroni, Pinot Grigio, Mozzarella, Pasta, Pizza, Tiramisu, Bruschetta, Sangiovese.
Zico, Sophia Loren, Antonio De Noli, Silvio Berluisconi, Agatha Of Sicily, Frankie Dettori, Charles 'Lucky' Luciano.
Our boys are coming for you |

Both are better, as are all remaining nations. If we keep our heads and niggle throughout though the pace of Welbeck and potential ability of Rooney we could beat any of the teams including Spain. Never ever get involved with the hype now but maybe just maybe one day ! |

"Wonder what the odds of Terry & Balotelli getting marching orders."
Balotelli: a good chance
Terry: not much but if it's 3-0 to England I'll go over there and shoot the fooker myself. |

A little advice to Scotland fans: If you are thinking of buying an Italian shirt for tonight, save yourself a trip to the shops and buy a German one at the same time. |

"From a Cardiff City fan i would love to see you win it,but if you beat Italy you got the best side in the world Germany so it will be very hard"
Hmm, surely as Spain are the current world champions, they are the 'best side in the world'...not Germany?!
Germany are just another team, its only the stigma attached that affects the 'can win' mentality of the English team. |

On current form, Germany are rated the team to beat in this competition. Spain have struggled in their games so far and will face a tough test against Portugal. I'm still tipping a Spain/Germany final but if England do manage to beat Germany I think we'll beat Spain too. Assuming we get past Italy.
Am I clutching at every straw I can here? |

As someone of Italian descent I can testify to them being large where it counts!
"Them Italianos are small buggers ain't they. Stick Carroll on, he won't even have to jump for the ball. "

whoever wins this game, they'll be dead on their feet for the germans. England should be freshest for pens, they have barely bothered to come out of their own half. |

"This way we've avoided a major embarrassment against the Germans!"
I'd be sure to lump moeny on them against italy, they're an old team, played for 120 mins, and will have 2 days less rest than the Germans, whoever won this game was going to get destroyed by ze germans. |

"we're not too bad for a country of our size."
Out of a population of around 50 million ??
We should be able to find a better 20 odd players than we have out of 50 million people |

"we have just been given a lesson in football, "
That's the embarrassing thing though isn't it.... we shouldn't need a lesson in Football.
What I don't get is when we have the ball, Italy rush around us closing us down making us get rid of the ball and forcing us to commit errors, where as when Italy has the ball, all our players jog along following the Italians keeping out of the way and giving them room to slowly work the ball to our penalty area... why ?!?!?! |

"dont you just hate that dour alan hansen in the after match analysis?,if he had been good enough to be a manager!. "
Not at all he gives some of the most insightful analyses of defencive strategies, football media often obsesses over strikers but football starts from the back, its shearer that i always find vacuous. As for England the game went pretty much as predicted we are now a good defensive side but need to develop more quality up front and not rely on roony who lets face it was one of ou worst players

Looks like the FA's plans for a plane on stand-by to bring the team home early weren't all in vain!!
It isn't all bad. They'll be coming home to their huge salaries, product and promotional endorsements and a couple of months off to rest before the start of next season! |

Not that I am a fan but I did watch the penalties whilst filing my nails the idiot, I believe that lost it for us was the one who took a run up then stopped, why did he do that for? All it did was mean that his shot was not so hard and gave the goalie time to work out where the ball was going to go, idiot |

I have often quipped that someone needs to get the team to run for the entire 60 minutes... They surpassed themselves last night by running for the whole 30 minutes then defending 0-0 for a penalty shoot out....
Err... Why...?? |

Agreed. It represented our best chance that's all. Going through would of course been welcome but embarrassing. Had that been Germany the chances would have been seized. The style of their play may have given us more chances and possession but we're not as clinical |

I think the root of England's problems lie in this fookin stupid WW2/Dambusters/fight them on the beaches bollocks. We've got used to us against the Germans and the British Bulldog Spirit blah blah blah and it is holding us back. We've no belief we can win a football tournament apart from 'well maybe its our turn'.
I'm so sick to death of hearing about 1966 - was it or wasn't it a goal etc etc etc..
Get some friggin belief into those boys that they are a generation who can do it if they stop looking at past generations who didn't. And above all, ban that frickin band who follow England about playing that fookin song all the bloody time. |

Lets face it England were dogshit last night..Italy had arond 70% possession, Rooney, useless fat waste of space, drop him, Carrol played well..he should have started over Rooney.
We looked like a league one team playing a premiership team...small club mentality, the fitness levels..how come the England players were knackered yet the Italians who had the ball most of time were still tearing about?...
Coles 'penalty'...more like a back pass to their goalie..
Yeh, they probably did their best..but its nowhere near good enough.
Still the league starts again in about 7 weeks...they can all enjoy their 100k+ wages and laugh it off.. |
