"American humour.... does this really exist "

Based on 'comedies', it seems most US humour has to be blatant slapstick type 'funny', in order to be humorous. The more sophisticated UK humour seems largely over their heads, and they largely don't get it, or view it as amusing because we're quirky.

Funny how we're so different, but at least we have had stations such as BBC that have held TV standards higher than much of their trashy stuff.

You've mistaken humour for idiotic retardedness.

I assume this is tongue in cheek, yes??

English humour is as unsophisticated, slap stick and trashy as it comes!!!

Well I'm a big fan of Cheers & Seinfeld, amongst others - do think the Americans are pretty good at conveyor belt comedies!

I married one, it doesn't exist unless it's laughing like kids at crap like garfield cartoons. Humour and sarcasm is completly wasted on them lol x Even when people 'accidently' ask them if they're Canadian they don't see the funny side x

Newcastle and Gateshead

american do great very dry comedies... they just not tend to do great on network TV... so it is the cable stations (HBO/Showtime) that then to make them....

30 Rock....

Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia...

Entourage......

'Friends' is/was excellent, and it takes a lot for me to say that about any US sitcom as I usually find them as dull as dishwater. Quite like Ray Morano though ('Everybody Loves Raymond') and the guy in 'My Name is Earl' is pretty funny too)

Well 'American Humour' is terrrific. Just a bit different to 'British Humour' in the same way we both speak English but a tad differently. OK very differently!

MASH, Rowan & Marins Laugh In, Friends, to name but 3 of my favourites are just as hilarious in their own way as anything produced here. And its not true to say they don't 'get' our humour. BBC America is a Pay per View channel and broadcasts many very popular British shows there.

Now German humour ......
