Righto! Here's another of my highly erotic threads .
For reasons too boring to go in to I have eat a lowish carb diet(not anywhere close to keto). I'm not pre-diabetic or diabetic but my blood sugar is on the high side.
My problem is hunger. I get so flaming hungry a scabby horse between two slices of mouldy bread prepared by Quasimodo looks like a Nigella cookery show.
I need ideas please for things I can eat that aren't cheese or eggs or nuts or peanut butter but are fairly low carb. |

Hey there, I did a garlic and broccoli and mushroom stir fry last night and it was bloody lovely. I used ketjap manis which is like a heavy soy sauce, they sell in m and s.
Quick, easy and tasty. Tastes like much more than it actually is.

"Just eat Burger King but if you get it at the drive through there’s a height restriction on the barrier so should be fine."
Sound advice. I don't think Burger King have removed my lifetime ban after the incident where I mistook a cardboard crown for a burger and declared it tastier than a whopper. |

I was thinking along those lines. I use quite a lot of olive oil and butter already (much to my mums horror ) |

You can do, maybe thinly sliced chicken or some prawns , something that cooks quickly.
I'm veggie so could use tofu or quorn chunks mebbe.
I had with white rice but could have brown rice or noodles of some description ![](/icons/thumb_up.png) |

Brockley, chickpeas any veg with high fiber should keep you fuller for longer and shouldn't spike your blood sugars. Also fish and eggs. |

If you want to increase your protein you could add protein powder to meals as that will help you feel fuller. I also buy protein water to increase mine as relieves the monotony of water alone.
I think the problem is that if not completely keto then your stomach will tell you it is hungry. You could add some protein shakes or protein bars as treats to bulk up what you are having now.
Good luck x |

I think my stomach is telling me its hungry because I genuinely need more food. Thanks for your advice, I will look at protein water but the pleasure of food is something I enjoy and replacing it with protein water feels a bit joyless. |

Yes, she's been very helpful to me too.
Good luck on the wagon.
I find what I'm doing fairly easy just eating lower carb but it seems that could be the cause of my hunger lol.
I have cake etc at weekends and don't notice that I'm more hungry. For me a cup of coffee on a Sunday morning just wouldn't be the same with a boiled egg ![](/icons/s/lol.gif) |

If you don’t want to increase the meat/fish and veg you eat at mealtimes then you could eat the no fat, no sugar protein yogurt and deserts that many brands make, particularly if you like sweet things.
Have a look online for food suggestions for after Bariatric surgery when at target weight. Sometimes just knowing food swaps can help - eg sweet potato for normal potato. Also ensure you are drinking enough water as sometimes your body can tell you it’s hungry when it’s thirsty. |

I'm not doing this for weight loss, I've never been overweight. I just need to keep my blood sugar level at an acceptable level without losing any weight. I already eat full fat Greek yogurt everyday and I think it's fats that I'm lacking.

"What would you eat on a normal day? As in what would you have for breakfast, brunch, elevenses, dinner, snack, afternoon tea, actual tea, supper, etc. "
Examples arw
Breakfast home made bread, butter, peanut butter or cream cheese, banana sometimes, redbush tea with milk.
Mid morning as much coffee as its humanly possible to drink, almonds, 85% dark choc. Lunch, ham, brie, avocado, green salad, tomatoes etc. Dinner, whatever I cook but substitute cauliflower rice or broccoli for potatoes, rice etc. Greek yogurt and fruit.
At weekends or if I'm a guest and my host offers cake, biscuits etc I eat it. ![](/icons/s/biggrin.gif) |

It doesn't sound very much. Have you counted the calories in a couple of days of meals? To get an average idea of calories then figure out how much you're in deficit. Might just need to add an afternoon snack similar to what you'd have for breakfast. ![](/icons/s/biggrin.gif) |

I'm not very good at calories. The consultant I see about my thyroid function, cholesterol and blood sugar advised me to lower my carb intake so I did . Sadly she didn't give me any advice other than don't eat vegetables that grow underground or porridge.
I think your idea is a good one. I'll eat something in the afternoon too. ![](/icons/s/biggrin.gif) |

I get quite bloated with too many carbs so try to eat meals with the family that are lower carb versions - faijitas but use iceberg leaves instead of flour tortillas etc. I can eat more protein (chicken, cheese, beef) in them and add calories with avocado, relishes etc.
Protein snacks of full fat yogurt, nuts etc really help keep hunger at bay but maintain calorie intake. When eating fewer carbs I need to drink more to process the proteins although I don’t feel thirsty.
Good luck, let us know how you get on. Mrs SW |

I eat low carb when dieting. I often cook big batches of mince meat and gravy and use loadd of mushrooms to fill it out.
Mushrooms when cooked whole give the great illusion of eating a low but very low calorie and carb but also filling.
Low carb diets often leave you hungry at first but as your insulin sensitivity starts to improve and you'll be getting less insulin spikes from carbs you will start to produce less of a hormone called Ghreline which is known as the hunger hormone.
Stick with it as it gets a lot easier |

It's been a year nearly. I'm not bothered about calories, in fact I probably need more. I think cooking a big batch of something is a good idea though. I used to do that with pasta and tomato sauce when our kids were teenagers and put it in the fridge for them to eat when they were hungry, which was all day, every day . |

I try to eat low carbs.
For snacks I eat Nuts, salted sunflower teddy bears.
I will also use wheat and oat crackers with real butter or light cheese spread as a snack.
I know that's not a massive help. Sorry.

Being completely keto to lose weight is hard. But if you want to maintain your current weight, it is much easier, as your macros are higher. |

"Righto!
I went to a nutritionist a few years ago to help me with weight loss and she advised me to go low-carb. She gave me a bunch of low-carb recipes for breakfast, lunch and dinner that helped me lose a ton of weight and took into account that I said I don't want to feel hungry. The trick is to make sure there's plenty of protein in what you eat.
If you would like me to pass on some of it then PM me. Alternatively, I do have a really good scabby horse recipe in a Nigella cook book I can share. Luke. |

Eating less carbs in itself made me less hungry. I avoid them before dinner to keep hunger at bay. Intermittent fasting also decreased my hunger and that lowers your blood sugar.
If you eat meat, that will fill you up. My meat eating low carb friends snack on those fridge raider things, tikka chicken and beef jerky.
I don't eat meat but I eat a fair amount of fish. Also dolmio have started these plant based bolegnaise pouches that I have for a quick lunch at work. No pasta, just the bolegnaise though you coukd have it with spiralised veg if you wanted. |

I did the GAPS diet for medical reasons while, which was no grains or sugar. I was so hungry and lost weight initially, which was not the idea. I really had to focus on nutrient & calorie dense foods, and kept loads of snacks on hand. It balanced out after a while. Paleo & gaps websites usually have loads of snack ideas. And you do need to up the amount of veggies you eat with eat meal too. |
