1. No tomato’s with beans, it’s one or the other.

2. No beans in a separate dish

3. Sausages are a break water, to keep beans away from the eggs

What are your golden rules when making a full English, not all rules have to be all about beans ?!

No beans whatsoever, I like them but they can't touch anything else.

Always tomatoes next to the sausage and always mushrooms next to the bacon

Fried bread under the egg, and the egg has to be a dippy one

The rules are all about the beans.

If the beans are everywhere I cant eat it - or if it's one on those slimey cooked breakfasts with oil all over the plate

Everything needs to be cooked nicely on separate parts of the plate

Has to be bacon, egg, sausages, beans, mushrooms, hash browns and toast.

No fried bread or tomatoes.

Tomato sauce all the way! Sprinkling of salt too

Now bacon and egg goes onto toast to make a nice toasted sandwich with a bit of tomato sauce. Yum! Devour the rest off the plate.

Anyone who puts ketchup on a fry up instead of brown sauce is a serial killer

Should always come with a cup od tea/coffee and chocie of toast/b&b/cob.

First off I like my fried eggs kind of crispy on the edges with the yolk bit very well done so when I cut into it, it’s dry.

I like my long cooked fried tomatoes on top of my fried bread.

I like beans next to my PORK sausage. None of the Apple and Pork or fancy Cumberland sausages, it has to be PORK.

I like my beans well cooked so the bean juice is thick. Branston beans are best for this.

I like button mushrooms cooked in butter (but drained well on dishing up).

I like a hash brown.

Here it is well done bacon (no rubbery rind), sausages (Square if I can get them, poached egg (runny yolk), hash browns or bubble & squeak, potato bread, baked beans. Nothing is fried though except bubble & potato bread, which only needs a little olive oil, everything else grilled or in the oven

The egg and toast are eaten separately, yolk broken over the toast, spread and eat... the white of the egg gets discarded here

Square sausage? I thought sausage was a shape? How can it be square, surely that would be square meat

No tinned tomatoes they're sloppy and vile, has to be a proper plump tomato, seasoned with salt, pepper and oil and grilled.

No cheap bacon as that's all water and shrivels to nothing.

No sausages at all for me as I've seen them made, if you have to have sausages get from a good source so you know they actually have pig in them not the leftover bits !

Toast means toasted bread. It doesn't mean bread that's been held under a hairdryer for two seconds and looks anaemic

Toast should be a decent shade of brown, it should have structural integrity, it can't support a decent dollop of beans or an egg it's not toast it's warm bread !

No black pudding, no chips

But hugely important is the big mug of strong warm tea to go with it, without this it's just items on a plate, with it you've got a full English breakfast.

One slice of white bread with proper butter on a side plate for the sole job of mopping up the juices when you've nearly finished and only the eggy, beany, saucy juice is left

Ps brown hp sauce

This will be controversial, but no tomato and no egg

Othercghan that I'll have sausage, bacon, hash browns, beans, black pudding, mushrooms, fried bread and either toast or bread & butter on the side. No sauce, thank you, it's pure and tasty enough as it is

And a mug of strong coffee to wash it all down with

You're welcome

Make it a full Irish

Reply privately, Reply in forum +quote or View forums list

By *xmfrvnMan  over a year ago

Stoke-on-Trent

The main rule is gerrit dahn ya.

Technique wise, make sure what's supposed to be crispy is crispy - bacon fat, hash browns, black pud, toast. Much like making love to a beautiful woman, what's stiff must remain stiff when dipped in the wet bits.

Oh and the tomatoes must be cooked, even if tinned. Went to one cafe where they just dolloped cold tinned toms on the plate. Ruined my week.

Cup of tea to wash it down.

No sauce fascism. Put any you want on it. Unless it's tartare sauce, are you mental?

When the yolk mixes with either the beans or tomatoes, that’s some of the best action right there. And having bread to mop it all up.

1. Good quality sausages, I have no idea why anyone uses stuff like Richmond. 75% meat minimum, flavoured with herbs at least.

2. Crispy bacon.

3. Fried or scrambled eggs

4. Potatoes are optional but hash browns or fried potatoes are appreciated

5. Beans are optional, but if present not too sweet a sauce

6. I used to say fried bread but now I'd prefer toast.

7. Black Pudding

8. Bottomless strong tea.
