With the popularity of mobile phones and social media which has now been around for 2-3 generations.
Is this responsible for people becoming more emotionally unavailable.
Admittedly there are other factors such as upbringing, past experiences etc.
Are the modern ways of living increasing this trait in people?
Do you see this as being a good thing for generations to come ?
Your thoughts please.

I'm not sure about emotionally unavailable - I think technology allows some people to be more open emotionally because they're behind the safety of a screen and feel less vulnerable. I do, however, think it has damaged the amount and quality of face to face social interaction, particularly with strangers. |

I compare my childhood to kids these days. I was happy enough minding my own business and learning to be independent.
Nowadays all i see is the constant need for validation on social media. Bullying occurring because someone didn't like their posts it's really increased the vulnerability to anxiety/rejection.

I don't think it means people are less emotionally unavailable but I think there is a difference in communication.
Some are more comfortable with writing messages than others. I can tell in the different writing styles of messages I get from very relaxed and conversational to quite terse and to the point.
I see it as an extension of face-to-face rather than as a replacement. Others might just see it as purely a way to arrange a meet.
I don't think emotional unavailabilty has to do with the technology making people that but it might aid those who want just sex or more casual dating to find that rather than those who want something more long term. |
