Furlough Good or bad

As I’m self employed I got my first payment in July and it was very helpful lucky I’m back at work now so didn’t need to apply for the second grant I’d dread to think what situation I’d of been in going nearly 3 months without any money |

I’ve been on furlough since April. I’ve been grateful for it as it has at least postponed redundancy but I have a feeling that’s coming next - and it’s a feeling I’ve had all along.
So, a mixed blessing really. And it’s not as if I’ve been able to do all the stuff that makes life worth living in the interim. |

Although I wasn’t furloughed, I can easily work from home I felt for those not in the same situation. The majority of people I know that were, are now being made redundant.
With a no deal Brexit coming up I truly worry over the future at the moment.
Sorry normally an optimist but with BoJo and Trump the World suddenly appears to be an insecure place, currently.

We had an education consultancy and just stopped trading in March , we could of furloughed or got support but there was only 3 of us working part time . The government messed up using our money, not theirs, to pay people to stay at home and do nothing, shrinking the economy now many SME’s look at the bank account and think T/o is low, open is low but net profit is about the same so will opt for an easy life, we saw this coming , most people who have build businesses knew this would happen |

You can’t blame owners for making people redundant, economy has not only shrunk but changed dynamics, people have adapted to new ways of spending money. Building a business and employing people is hard work, you often go to bed worrying about those families and mortgages and often net profits aren’t that much greater from 5-25 staff, the operating costs and admin are huge though in the uk with min wage, pensions, and a culture of sick pay. |

It's a mixed blessing. Good that people have had their jobs retained at least in the short term, but in some cases, the people left behind still working are left picking up the strain. My assistant was furloughed because she can't effectively work from home and we had another guy furloughed because of family caring responsibilities (both furloughed in June but had been off on various types of leave before that). Their jobs actually didn't stop existing so I've basically done three people's jobs since late March.
Honestly, how I've not lost the plot, I don't know. I had my own 3yo daughter at home from March to June, so was doing 3 people's jobs and had a small child to care for/entertain too.
Furlough due to childcare issues/caring responsibilities is allowed, by the way. |

I didn’t blame employers for this situation and sympathetic to everyone caught up in this mess. |

Hasn’t affected me as I could still work. I know some have claimed and still worked which I think is out of order. My daughter has been furloughed though so it was definitely good for her. |

I'm on furlough still and they're working it out what I earned last years before I became a student and dramatically reduced my hours so I'm currently getting more than I would be getting if I was working |

I was off from march to june now back at work.
It was brilliant probably over generous as I was getting more money than if I was at work it is 80% of last year's average wage which I worked a lot of hours last year.
Wish i could have been on a lot longer |

Here occasionally, but mostly somewhere else |
I was only affected in the sense that I was involved in administering it for my employer.
My opinion on it is that it was the right idea, and implemented pretty well at very short notice (not usually a government strength). It was only ever going to be a temporary measure, and mass redundancies were always inevitable at the end of it.
Good luck to all in that situation.

Been furloughed since March and I will be returning once the kids are back in School full time mid September.
As a single mum who has had no offer of help from their dad regarding having them other than his specified times, it has enabled me to stay home and look after them (and home school) without having to give up my job.
I’m very thankful for the furlough scheme. But I’m also very thankful that I will have a job to go back to, and I’m looking forward to getting back to it.

Great points from all that have contributed. I work as a tax consultant and I must say the scheme has been a great help for those that needed it.
Having said that, the scheme was opened to much abuse and its a shame people took advantage and had a bigger slice of the cake than they really should have.
Well, there is tough time ahead and once the scheme stop in October, there is going to me more job losses.
It’s a shame some employers are making staff redundant during the scheme which they could have kept them on. I think the reason behind this is most employees that are made redundant are less than 2 years in there current employment. By letting them go now saves a lot of red tapes. |
