I was crap at academics at school..forget numbers and physics and chemistry..straight over my head..though I was a dab hand with making things go BANG n BOOM. Anyways todays tree job got me thinking and realising that in actual fact Im using physics and maths unknowingly in my work..whether its working out pulleys, rope hoists, angles, weight distribution and stress points...so well pissed that I wasted those school years when it came as second nature in later life. So this thread will probably pass by in anonymity but is there anything you now do and take for granted that , at school, college etc you couldn t grasp? |

Learning is a strange thing. Some people can learn in class others can't until they have the physical application of it. If you went back now and did the school work again it probably would click with you.
A prime example of it is the likes of technic lego. Playing away for all those years as a kid learning engineering principles and not realising |

Yeah true. I was crap at school, left, got an interest in history and archeology then a few years ago found and headed up a major historical find. The pros constantly tried to trip me up but thanks to time team they eventually accepted me! Funny old world eh |

I think it's all down to your teacher not making it interesting for you at school so you didn't see the point of physics and maths because there was no relevance to you.
If the teacher had found your one passion and linked the learning to that you'd have taken an interest and loved it I bet,

The school curriculum is so stiff and teachers are somewhat programmed to cram young minds with as much as they can possible during their learning years.... as expected of course but .... If only teachers would associate the ‘everyday’ events in life to subjects they are teaching - perhaps the kids would be able to grasp a better sense of how important learning is and how those everyday events will follow into future careers.
My year tutor debunked both of my chosen career choices as unattainable so I dropped both! Fortunately I excelled in chemistry and biology but had no idea what to do with either!
It was only when I left college that I landed a temporary job that went on to form the platform of a career that has spanned 39 years and which I enjoy immensely.
Everyday is a school day!

It is down to how one is taught. I ve had the pleasure of teaching all ages in non academic activities and I ve loved it and always make it curious and practical to everyday life or work. |
