Frustration...

....no, not that sort! Well, a bit of that sort

I'm recovering from gynae surgery and it's so frustrating to be just sitting (well, lying here) doing sweet FA. I'm always a busy person and usually spend any downtime going on adventures with my family. However, I can't drive and S doesn't have a licence. I'm not allowed to self propel my wheelchair unless it's really flat ground and it's not designed to be pushed by someone else. It's pissing down with rain and so even sitting in the garden is off limits.

I feel absolutely fine, I have no pain, but if I do too much, I risk bleeding and damaging the repair. That's the frustration! Past surgeries have left me feeling grim, unable to function without help etc. so it didn't feel like I was just wasting time.

And I'm getting serious urges that I can't fulfil, just to add insult to injury

I don't feel like I can have this rant on my public social media and friends who know I've had the surgery said they'd ring etc, but haven't. Oh well.

OK, pity party over

You could pass the time by planning out activities, days out, weekend breaks, holidays ect. things you can do once you have recovered from surgery & are mobile again (and covid restrictions relaxed). yes it may be depressing that you cant do any of those things now, but you will have some great things to look forward to that have been well planned.

Sorry to hear OP.

I'd say do those boring jobs you don't usually get time to like sorting the post/bills.

Always takes longer than you think but I get a great feeling of achievement when I've shredded a load of cr@p.

Or how about getting a box of note lets and sending a hi to all the people you always mean to keep in touch with and never do?

Don"t need to write war and peace just a hi I"m thinking of you..

Or get adult colouring in books...suprisingly therapeutic.

Or get your Xmas card list done and put in s box to post later in the year.

How long is it until you've recovered enough to be walking about/ doing stuff again?

If it will make life better for you in the long run it will be worth it. x

Get creative. Write, draw, make jewellery or knit... whatever takes your fancy and requires your concentration. It’ll be over soon.

Thanks for some ideas, folks. I'm struggling to use my laptop at the moment, as I'm having to recline most of the time in a way that makes laptopping quite hard, but am looking for a stand thingy that will allow me to use it lying down. I have been trying to get our kitchen design off the ground and help our son with his plans moving to uni, but even so, I still just feel useless

Outsider: hopefully I can drive after another week (3wks post op) but can't do much physically for 6 weeks. At the moment, I'm not even supposed to lift the kettle! I normally go to the gym, play wheelchair sports etc but they are broadly off limits for 8-12 weeks, other than spectating. I'm not sure on the limits on self propelling up hills but imagine 6wks plus. I won't be able to go out alone initially even when I can drive, because I won't be able to lift my chair.

Yes, I've waited for this surgery tech since my eldest was born (source of damage) but officially on NHS waiting list for a year. It's already definitely benefited me, for which I am very grateful, I just need to keep my head in gear with this enforced isolation and doing nothing......

Spectating will be more fun than laying in bed. Something to look forward to.
